THE CHURCH FATHER WHO WROTE THIS IN 107 AD AND IT SILENCES EVERY PROTESTANT ARGUMENT
St. Ignatius of Antioch was a student of the Apostle John. He was arrested and sent to Rome to be eaten by lions.
On the way, he wrote seven letters. In 107 AD, within living memory of the Apostles, he wrote:
“Where the bishop is, there let the multitude of believers be; even as where Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church.” (Letter to the Smyrnaeans, 8:2)
This is the first recorded use of the term “Catholic Church” and it comes from a man who personally knew the Apostle who leaned on Jesus’ chest at the Last Supper.
He also wrote:
“Take note of those who hold heterodox opinions… They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ.”
Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. The Catholic Church by name. Obedience to bishops in apostolic succession.
107 AD. Not the Council of Trent. Not the Middle Ages.
The next time someone tells you the Catholic Church invented these doctrines centuries later, show them Ignatius.
He wrote this on the way to die for it.
Cardinal Ratzinger in 2004 speaking officially as Pope St. John Paul II’s chief doctrinal officer. This remains the only position on capital punishment consistent with scripture, the Fathers and Doctors of the Church, and papal teaching up to Benedict XVI. https://t.co/AA8v1F10aS
Here’s the video of the Pope responding to Card. Cupich granting Sen. Richard Durbin a church honor. 10 U.S. bishops have condemned the honor, given Durbin’s record on abortion. Pope Leo does not seem disturbed by the honor. Video: EWTN.
Bishop James V. Johnston of Kansas City–St. Joseph is the latest U.S. bishop to join the group of Catholic bishops publicly opposing Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich’s decision to present a Lifetime Achievement Award to pro-abortion Senator Dick Durbin.
“To do so would give a confusing counter-witness about the dignity of the human person and the grave evil of destroying innocent human life.“
Imagine this: a prominent member of the U.S. Senate has a very strong record on defending the human dignity of life in the womb but also advocates for funding for Border Patrol agents to shoot people trying to enter the country illegally. Would anyone think it reasonable to honor such a senator for the senator’s pro-life record on abortion? No one who advocates for the direct, intentional killing of innocent human life should be honored. Period.
The Archdiocese of Chicago’s plan to give @SenatorDurbin a Catholic “Lifetime Achievement Award” is untenable. Works of justice & protecting life are not mutually exclusive but must be inclusive. Abortion violates “Thou shalt not kill” (Ex 20:13). I join @BishopPaprocki & @ArchCordileone in urging @CardinalBCupich to retract this award. Let us together pray & act consistently for life!
Again, @CardinalBCupich, Durbin is not only bad on killing children, he’s also bad on mutilating them and exposing them to perversion. I mean, you might just as will give the award to satan because he offered Christ a loaf of bread.
We now have three highly esteemed bishops — Archbishop Cordileone, and Bishops Paprocki and Conley — all offering fraternal correction to Cardinal Cupich. This is uncommon, and strikes me as more than justified. What do you think?
Yes, early Christians prayed for intercession of the Virgin Mary. Preserved on a papyrus, dating to AD 250, includes the following:
"Mother of God, hear my supplications: do not allow us to remain in adversity, but deliver us from danger."
Cardinal Cupich speaks at the DNC while free vasectomies and abortions are offered outside the doors. Are we really shocked this man was booed off stage at the Pro Life march in Chicago?
Please pray for this man.
I join Archbishop Cordileone in supporting Bishop Paprocki and urging Cardinal Cupich to reverse his decision regarding Senator Durbin. I also commend Bishop Paprocki for caring for the Senators soul and barring him from receiving Communion.
Shocker. Durbin bishop shopped until he found someone to give him a pass on trans-ing the kids, killing children and having men undress in front of women. He found that bishop in ++Cupich.
I wonder if @CardinalBCupich has read his own Archdiocesan guidelines for giving awards to “individuals whose public position is in opposition to the fundamental moral principles of the Catholic Church?” He insists on doing so with @SenatorDurbin
NEW: Pope Leo met w Cardinal Sarah today
Sarah recently said that Fiducia Supplicans “threatens the unity of the Church. It is a document to be forgotten.”
Has also strongly warned against Latin Mass restrictions.
Banning the TLM “would be like forbidding the study of St. Augustine to anyone who wanted to reflect correctly on grace or the Trinity,” Sarah said
