Getting rid of the American workers who take care of American veterans is wrong.
Veterans will not take this sitting down - we can make this the newest example of Trump being forced to back down from a bad move.
Through struggle and discipline, persistence and faith, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. helped move this country forward. As we honor his legacy today, let’s remember the lesson he taught us: that even in the face of impossible odds, people who love this country can help change it. In honor of #MLKDay, I hope you’ll do what you can in your community to create a better future for us all.
Here's where things stand in North Carolina's Supreme Court race.
Justice @AllisonJRiggs won November's election for the NC Supreme court. She won narrowly, by only 734 votes out of 5.7 million cast (!), but a win is still a win.
(This is hardly something new. Republican Justice Paul Newby won his seat over Democratic incumbent Justice Cheri Beasley by only 401 votes in 2020.)
The losing Republican candidate @JGriffinNC and the @NCGOP is asking the Republican majority on the NC Supreme Court itself to throw out at least 60,000 ballots, overturn the election, and make him the winner. Meanwhile, @AllisonJRiggs has asked the federal Fourth Circuit appeals court to hear the case. It could even go up to SCOTUS - no one knows.
Federal courts generally trump state ones, but state courts generally have jurisdiction over state law. So no one's completely sure where it's going to land.
What's this case about?
The @JGriffinNC campaign's argument is that more than 60,000 votes are not valid because the voters have invalid registrations. The reason they give is that the federal Help America Vote Act, passed in 2002, required all voter registration forms nationally to henceforth collect drivers license or social security numbers (or to use some other unique numbering system) to track registrations.
And North Carolina did begin collecting SSNs/drivers license numbers on voter registration forms then, but did not change the language on the form to require them until 2023. So in addition to the many voters who registered prior to 2002 and lack that information, a small number of voters who have registered since 2002 also lack that information on their registrations. (They still verify their identity using other methods, including showing photo ID to vote in 2024.)
There are a lot of problems with this argument:
1 - All of the 60,000+ voters @JGriffinNC and the @NCGOP seeks to nullify are actually real, valid voters who filled out registration forms as they were supposed to. In fact, the Griffin campaign has failed to show that even 1 single voter on their list is illegitimate in any way.
Perhaps the forms should have used different language prior to 2023 - but that isn't the voters' fault.
2 - A federal court already shot down this exact argument as frivolous: https://t.co/KAr661nJgn
3 - Bizarrely, Griffin and the NCGOP campaign is only seeking to throw out votes as they apply to the Court election. They are not asking to also invalidate votes in other statewide elections - for example, for President.
In fact, the NCGOP is asking for votes for Trump to count, but the votes for Riggs to be cancelled, from many of the very same ballots.
4 - Nearly every element of the voter registration process in the state of North Carolina has been crafted by Republican lawmakers, who have controlled the state legislature for 13 years. They have made big changes to the voter registration process through laws passed in both 2013 and 2015. If the process still isn't right, those lawmakers are to blame.
Could other election outcomes be changed?
No one really knows. This is all totally uncharted territory.
If the Republican majority on the NC Supreme Court did throw out all those votes, then the next obvious question would be - what other elections would that impact? There are several legislative elections whose outcome could change, but they've already been certified and the members sworn-in. Could they somehow be de-certified?
Anything's possible, if you don't care about the rule of law. And that's really what this whole matter is about. This isn't really a legal case at all - Griffin's argument is utter nonsense. This is a purely political power grab, and we can all see it.
Enjoyed the respite of the season but for the year 2025 we have been promised the following:
Mass deportations.
Detention camps.
Vigorous pursuit of the death penalty.
Withdrawal of support of NATO and maybe total withdrawal from NATO.
Reductions of taxes for the wealthy and reductions of benefits for the regular citizens.
Reduction of education and informed medical science.
Continued reduction of the rights of women.
Threats of forced colonization of allies and expansion of an American empire.
Advancement of "white" people above all others.
Economy crashing tariffs paid by American consumers.
Intimidation of the press by all means conceivable.
Be rested and prepared to resist this American dystopia.
We've never faced anything like this before.
Will not be easy.
Use your voice and continue to point out injustice.
These statewide races are the only ones that Republicans couldn’t gerrymander. That means the power is in your hands.

Choose experience > extremism this year North Carolina! @HuntforNC has a record of public service, and she’s someone we need looking out for rural folks and working people as Lt. Governor.
Lord knows — it’ll be nice to actually have someone who will work hard in the LG’s office!
I'm proud to be endorsed by so many groups representing working families and their values in Western North Carolina, including @SEANC, @NCAE, @NCStateAFLCIO, and more. #ncpol
It is a false choice to suggest you are either in favor of the Second Amendment or you want to take everyone’s guns away.
I am in favor of the Second Amendment — and I am in favor of an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, and red flag laws.
the faces you make when you know North Carolina democrats have the most experienced candidates on the ballot this year and meanwhile republicans are doubling down on supporting mark robinson
.@Oprah: For all of you watching who are still on the fence, in the middle, independent as I am, or whether you just still don't know what you're gonna do. This is the moment for all decent and caring people who want the best for yourself and other people. This is the moment for people who are tired of all of the bickering and all of the name-calling, people who are exhausted by the craziness and the made up stories and the conspiracies. This is the moment you wanna get on with your life because you know that we can do better and that we deserve better. You know this, I know you know this, I know you feel this. I know this is what you're saying amongst yourselves. We're better than this. And as my friend and mentor Maya Angelou always said, ‘When you know better, you got to do better.’ So let's do better and vote for Kamala Harris
As we celebrate Women’s Equality day, we are reminded there is still a lot of work to do! Women’s rights are on the line this election. We must come together to restore women’s reproductive freedom and put a woman in the White House for the first time in America’s history.
From the Supreme Court to the state legislature, North Carolinians are fired up to elect Democrats in November with @KamalaHarris leading the fight for working families and people across our state. ✊ #ncpol
