In a remarkable recognition of grassroots wildlife conservation, the extraordinary story of Kampur’s "Forest Man" Dharani Saikia and his wife Anjali Saikia has been officially included in the CBSE Class 10 English curriculum under the title "Baby Bhakat." For over 40 years, Dharani Saikia has dedicated his life to nature conservation and wildlife rescue in Assam, but it was a unique rescue in 2009 that would eventually captivate a national audience.
The couple rescued an orphaned civet cat, whom they named Bhakat. At the time, the Saikias were raising their own six-month-old infant. In an unparalleled display of compassion and maternal instinct that transcended species, Anjali Saikia breastfed the infant civet cat alongside her own baby for nearly three months.
This profound bond was documented by Delhi-based photographer Romal during his stay with the family, helping the narrative reach a wider audience.
Today, the inspiring tale of "Baby Bhakat" stands as a testament to human-animal coexistence, bringing immense pride to Greater Kampur and the entire state.

🇮🇳 Calcutta, 1956: India's first digital computer — the massive HEC-2M — was installed at ISI Baranagar by P.C. Mahalanobis!
This UK-imported giant transformed stats, science & national planning when computers were still rare across Asia. Calcutta became India’s earliest digital computing hub!
Later, ISI collaborated with Jadavpur University to build ISIJU-1 — India’s first indigenous digital computer.
A proud chapter in our tech history! 💻

A stable #Myanmar is a big requisite for sustainable development of North East India border areas and the Indians residing there.
Hope things turn favorable at the earliest for citizen of both countries.
Myanmar isn’t just some neighbour on the map for India, it’s a straight-up strategic necessity
We share a massive 1,643 km border.
That means real security cooperation: tackling cross-border threats, terrorism, illegal networks, and keeping India’s Northeast peaceful and stable.
On top of that, Myanmar is packed with heavy rare earth minerals… the critical stuff that powers EVs, semiconductors, defence tech and all the advanced industries.
Massive deal for India to diversify supply chains and stop being over-reliant on others.
Connectivity is another huge win. It’s literally our only land bridge to ASEAN.
The Kaladan Project, India-Myanmar-Thailand Highway, and rupee-kyat settlement are making trade smoother and opening up serious access.
Big picture? Myanmar helps India step up in the Indo-Pacific, build balanced partnerships, and keep things steady in the eastern neighbourhood.
Security, critical minerals, connectivity, and strategy… Myanmar checks every single box.
