25 years ago tomorrow (10/6), Matthew Shepard was beaten and left for dead — tied to a fence in Wyoming. The only part of his face not covered in blood was two white lines running down his cheeks from where his tears ran dry. His death ignited a fight for equality. You don't have to be gay to be a supporter. You just have to be human.#bekind #missionaryofmerc
@mfjlewis I don't know the whole statement's context, so it's hard to comment. As I read more of what he said, he wanted to have each young person 'witness' their faith to other young people. In a sense, he is talking about evangelizing to others rather than just 'converting' them.
@mbayer1248 After 30 years of campus ministry, I found what you said to be very true. We always started with what did the students need humanly. They always found a safe place just to be themselves, and slowly put together that was the way of Christ and most wanted part of that.
On the eve of #Synod2018, I'm re-sharing my thoughts over at @americamag on why this gathering is critically important, especially now in the face of scandal and confusion.

This is the group in "Cumbres" at the end of our week. We had 4 of our team down because of the 'stomach thing' that can happen in Mexico. The whole team was made up of people from Trinity Lutheran Church, Seattle; HS students Davis, CA; The East-West-Seattle and The Shrine.
