JOSEPH KABILA ON THE DRONE ATTACK IN GOMA, THE DOHA PROCESS AND THE NATIONAL DIALOGUE
1. On the drone attack in Goma
Kabila:
“It was during that particular ceasefire that I thought we were safe in this very town. Then the drone came, and the idea was to finish us off.”
Journalist: Are you saying that the drone attack that killed the humanitarian worker here in Goma was aimed at killing you?
Joseph Kabila:
“I’m pretty sure it was. I’m pretty sure it was because, according to the reports we received, after the attack, a number of houses in Kinshasa were popping champagne because, well, they had achieved their objectives.
“Why would you pop champagne in the middle of the night? In fact, it was at 3 a.m. What was the occasion?
“So we were definitely the target.
“Prior to that, those drones had killed people in Masisi. To this day, those drones are killing people in Minembwe, in South Kivu.”
2. On the Doha process
Kabila:
“As the FRN, we believe that the Doha process is one option among other options.”
3. On the proposed national dialogue
Journalist: What about the national dialogue?
Joseph Kabila:
“Well, is there going to be a national dialogue? It depends on what you call a national dialogue.
“Our understanding of a national dialogue is simple: it has to include all the stakeholders, or at least the major stakeholders. It has to be inclusive and independent, bringing together people with different views who can sit around the table, discuss the issues and hammer out solutions.
“You also need a body that will preside over that particular dialogue. You need guarantors people who will guarantee that, if such a dialogue takes place, its resolutions will be implemented.
“We believe that all those ingredients are not yet in place.
“What the president in Kinshasa has said is that the only dialogue that will take place is his own dialogue. And his dialogue is not a dialogue; it is a monologue. He wants to talk to himself, his people, his clan, and through that, change resolutions and impose them on others.
“That is not dialogue. They are not interested in dialogue. They are interested in hanging on to power, changing the Constitution, and doing every manner of chaos they can.”

🚨 NEW EPISODE OUT NOW! 🚨
We’ve heard countless debates about M23, Rwanda, and the war in eastern Congo. But how much do we really know about what’s happening on the ground?
This week on The Long Form Podcast, I sit down with Dr. Bojana Coulibaly (@CoulibalyBojana), a researcher who has visited AFC/M23-controlled territory, including Goma and recruitment centres.
We discuss why young people join M23, the women within the movement, life in Goma, Congo’s minerals, and the role of propaganda in shaping the conflict.
A conversation worth watching with an open mind.

Des dossiers de corruption ;
Des dossiers d’assassinats ;

“Since 2022,…reports have described Congolese military support to FDLR, including weapons, ammunition, and operational coordination. @MONUSCO is supporting a national army whose battlefield partners include a genocidal militia …”
Of MONUSCO’s hand in FDLR’s three-decade survival
🔴For nearly three decades, UN peacekeepers have operated in eastern DRC with successive mandates to disarm armed groups. Yet the Kinshasa-backed FDLR genocidal group, one of the region’s most notorious militias, remains active. Its endurance raises questions about the UN mission’s priorities, its military partnerships, and the consequences of repeatedly failing to eliminate a threat rooted in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
🔴Since 2022, UN and Human Rights Watch reports have described Congolese military support to FDLR, including weapons, ammunition, and operational coordination. MONUSCO is supporting a national army whose battlefield partners include a genocidal militia the UN itself had repeatedly demanded be disarmed.
🔴On February 2, 2024, a MONUSCO helicopter evacuating wounded fighters of the Congolese army coalition near Karuba, in the Masisi territory of North Kivu, came under fire. Two UN peacekeepers were wounded. The incident, documented by MONUSCO and UN investigators, demonstrated the mission's direct battlefield medical support to the FARDC-FDLR coalition. Military sources have confirmed that MONUSCO helicopters evacuated wounded FDLR combatants and that UN-supplied equipment reached the genocidal group.
🔴UN investigations confirm FARDC-FDLR cooperation and Congolese military supplies to the FDLR but hide that MONUSCO knowingly armed or evacuated FDLR fighters.
🔴Why did MONUSCO failed to end FDLR's armed presence and keep supporting successive Congolese military partnerships that allowed the genocidal group to survive, despite having a mandate to confront it? For a mission entrusted with restoring security in eastern DRC, the FDLR's continued existence represents an enduring strategic failure, despite costing over USD 1 billion every year. It is safe to say the mission has been useless to DRC and the region at large.

Congo's Billion-Dollar Mercenary War
➡️ The use of foreign mercenaries by the DRC government is a continuation of a violent, colonial legacy through the privatization of war on African soil.
➡️ Mercenaries in Congo, from Mike Hoare's "Wild Geese" and Bob Denard to Jean Schramme, were contracted to violently suppress self-determination, plunder natural wealth, and kill Africans. Today, under Félix Tshisekedi's government, that same sinister playbook is being deployed.
➡️ The DRC government is spending billions of US dollars, which should be used to build a capable, sovereign military and protect citizens, to contract foreign white fighters to come to Congo to kill black people.
➡️ While ordinary Congolese citizens are treated as second-class humans and left vulnerable to unspeakable violence, the Tshisekedi administration is importing mercenaries to wage war on its own soil with no condemnation of this phenomenon by the international community today.
➡️ The nationalities of these contracted killers reflect a globalized industry of death, with the deployment of #Romanian, #American, #Colombian, #French Foreign Legion, and #Israeli mercenaries.
➡️ These foreign combatants are directly contributing to the protracted conflict in the region. Their presence ensures that the violence remains unending, unaccountable, and highly profitable for the foreign entities involved, while the Congolese people suffer the consequences.
➡️ Yet, the inherent danger and immorality of this practice has been recognized. The UN International Convention against the Recruitment, Use, Financing and Training of Mercenaries (Adopted: December 4, 1989) explicitly outlaws the use of foreign combatants.
➡️ The OAU/AU Convention for the Elimination of Mercenarism in Africa (Adopted: July 3, 1977) recognizes that mercenaries represent a fundamental threat to the peace, security, and territorial integrity of African states.
➡️ Despite these clear, established conventions, the deployment of foreign mercenaries in the DRC continues with impunity.
➡️ African sovereignty cannot be built by outsourcing violence to foreign actors who have no stake in the peace or prosperity of the nation.
➡️ Africa must stop being a playground for international soldiers of fortune.
