Citizenship by birth was assumed before 14th amendment for Whites. Naturalization Act of 1790 was for free white immigrants. Required living in the U.S. for only 2 yrs and showing good character.

There was no definition laid down for who was a citizen and who was not a citizen until the 14th amendment. Slaves were personal property and freed Blacks were in limbo because there was no written stance.

We simply can't buy knowing we'll need to replace the HVAC and roof within a few years. Plus issues like original windows, never rewired, cast iron pipes.

Hamilton's money was in assets (like Platner) and over half of his wealth was eaten by debts. Friends helped support his wife and kids after his death.

History is filled with exceptionally intelligent people who had middling levels of importance and wealth. George Washington had no formal education. A Hamilton was born poor and died poor.
