Less than 4% of known cold-water coral species have been the focus of reproductive studies. When it comes to cold-water corals, there is still so much we don’t know, and reproduction is just one example.

How can we protect something we know so little about?

To address these and other challenges, CORDAP has released a roadmap identifying knowledge gaps and research priorities to support cold-water coral conservation and restoration over the next decade.

The #CorpsofExlporation had the rare opportunity to see this fish within #PalauNationalMarineSanctuary while exploring the top of a seamount. Its ultra-black-toned scales have evolved to absorb, not reflect, light- making it very difficult to see in the deep (and to photograph).
