What is independence when a government systematically fails to protect its own citizens?
When national service remains indefinite, when families are torn apart by forced conscription, when dissent is met with #TransnationalRepression, and when the economy serves the few rather than the many — independence becomes a word emptied of meaning.
The #PFDJ won a historic military victory decades ago. But it has since won something far more damaging: control over the very idea of Eritrea. Today, the state functions as an instrument of one party, its loyalists, and affiliated networks. The people remain subjects, not citizens.
The #Eritrean #BlueRevolution Front rejects this captured sovereignty. We fight for an Eritrea where independence means freedom, dignity, and accountability — not perpetual sacrifice for the benefit of the few. #Eritrea #EBRF #TrueIndependence @KjetilTronvoll@mrubin1971@_hudsonc@TheEconomist@washingtonpost@pressfreedom@afric_insde@TheAfricaReport
May 24 is no longer a historical anniversary. Mirror reflects #Eritrea unresolved struggle between:
■ liberation and authoritarianism,
■nationalism and human rights,
state sovereignty and citizen freedom,
■revolutionary legacy and democratic aspirations.

We had a productive time last week @EGerasouli35992
Timing could not have been more perfect
Grateful for your effort and hard work
#EBRF continue to receive support and builds a network of supporters who support the democratization of Eritrea
Important reporting from one of the world’s most repressive countries. Engagement can be positive, but it must come with serious conditions and follow-through. Dawit Isaak is still not free. @MariaStenergard@martinschibbye@PENsweden@MehariMeng53005

Isaias Afwerki: Throne of Eritrean Blood 🩸
The man sat in a pool of blood, but he did not feel the wetness. To him, the deep crimson was not life lost, but the foundation of his throne. He folded his arms across his chest, a slight, satisfied smile playing on his lips as he looked out over the expanse he claimed as his own. The borders were drawn in the very substance that now soaked his clothes. It was a map of his making. A jagged, bleeding outline of a land he held in a suffocating grip. He felt no weight on his conscience, only the solid, unyielding pride of a man who had outlasted every challenge, even at the cost of the ground beneath him turning to slime.
Around him, the small shapes moved with agonizing slowness. They were children, or what was left of them…scraps of humanity crawling through the thick, red tide. They did not look at him; they didn’t have the strength or affection. They were trying to escape the borders of the very map he sat upon, their small hands slipping in the gore as they pulled themselves toward a horizon that seemed to retreat with every inch they gained.
Some didn’t move at all. They lay still, their journeys ended by the weight of the red sea or the exhaustion of the flight. To the man in the center, they were merely features of the landscape, dots on a map, statistics he had long ago learned to ignore.
He remained seated, immovable and calm. He did not reach out to help, nor did he look away. He simply watched the slow, desperate exodus, knowing that as long as the blood flowed, his map remained defined, and as long as he sat at its center, he was the master of all he surveyed even if all he surveyed was a desert of shadows and a river of sorrow.
FYI: I just came across this picture today after @MenelikRusell posted in response to someone. This picture was originally posted in 2018. I just gave my own interpretation of it.
