@DrueSchneider I agree that we should always be familiar with the community we serve in order to make our practice more effective and understanding #SOWK35021
I think the big idea in this course was how connections and relationships, whether in small groups or in communities, can have a significant impact on both the environment and the person #SOWK35021
@AndreaMcComas22 The pandemic will have lasting impacts beyond just the disease, so focusing on economic relief, esp. for countries that have been hard hit, is essential #SOWK35021
@ChristianUnsih2 I agree! Environmental issues directly tie into human issues. Pollution & other concerns harm those in poverty more than affluent people/nations. We rely on the planet for food, weather that keeps us alive, etc. #SOWK35021
The incident w/ the missionary happened a few years ago. Contacting tribes that want to be left alone does not support the dignity/worth of individuals. It disregards cultural practices & exposes the groups to hazards, such as disease #SOWK35021

@LesherSabrina My family didn't often interact with neighbors either, & there were enough trees to shield our home from comparisons. Were these comparisons done out of curiosity, or were they more competitive? #SOWK35021
I grew up in a rural, quiet, & simple area. I could not see neighbors from my house, as each property was somewhat isolated, & in the town, there was only a church and an elementary school (no gas station, corner market, etc.) #SOWK35021
@anna_finch20 Many caregivers don't know where to turn, especially given that there is stigma surrounding this when caring for a family member, so it is so important to make sure that there are resources and support for caregivers #SOWK35021
@amccoy337 This is a really great list! It is so important now more than ever to make sure that people have access to mental health care, and the expansion of online resources is so important during the current crisis #SOWK35021
Comprehensive sex education that is LGBT+ inclusive and not abstinence-focused is essential for preventing teen pregnancy/the spread of STDs & for promoting healthy and safe sexual experiences #SOWK35021

@FialaKendra I agree that people are afraid to talk about suicide. So much so that some people won't even say the word, which especially impacts professionals' ability to communicate with clients (or for anyone to communicate with loved ones who need to reach out) #SOWK35021
Because there is the widespread belief that children/teens will outgrow mental health issues, there is very little support for people struggling, and the education system is a good opportunity for intervention.

@AndreaMcComas22 I like that you brought up that leaders should always be willing to learn and evaluating themselves. This is the only way we will grow and become more effective, helpful practitioners and leaders! #SOWK35021
@AbbrielleSavage I agree that open/honest conversations and communication is important. Connecting with everyone in the group and including them in the process is so important when in any kind of leadership position! #SOWK35021
This article talks about how perspective-taking/empathy, having effective problem-solving skills, and having communication skills are essential for developing good leadership skills, especially for social work practice #SOWK35021
