@MartinSLewis Needs a complete rethink: too many get too much disposable income: others after mortgage costs have much less disposable income.
Whole system skewed towards those who work minimum qualifying hours versus those who have to work 50+ hours to keep their homes.
@MikeKlimes_MM @PensionsMonkey So does this mean you will be able to leave an unlimited pension pot (subsidised on input) to your family free of all taxes.
@PensionsMonkey Bet there will be nothing for the over 75s - still trying to lay past something for the future but not much left after ever higher tax especially in Scotland.
@mikeyboy63@MoneySavingExp Just go to: https://t.co/47fty83qT7
Then: Find out about help with energy bills
Then: If you use alternative fuel for heating
Then you wait till the portal opens; this was due 6 March but not open yet.
Payment will be made by Local Authority.
@JamesReckons@MartinSLewis No I’m saying that the mains gas pipeline runs up my street but decided I did not want gas in my house.
I’ve used oil since the house was built.
@OneAboutSue@MartinSLewis Looked for portal - not there.
Called the helpline and was told that there had been a further delay with the portal and to call back later in the week.
In the meantime found a letter to LAs from Amanda Solloway MP reminding them that the ball would be in their court on 6 March.
@MartinSLewis As you’re probably aware the Alternative Fuel Payment portal postcode lottery for properties excluded from the automatic £200 payment has been delayed again. Did the Gov forget to tell the LAs that they would be administering it?
@JamesReckons@MartinSLewis Don’t think that’s correct.
Gov website says:
Not connected to mains gas grid and
Use alternative fuel for heating.
Also:
You may not get automatically if your home is in an area mainly connected to the gas grid.
Hence the need to apply through the portal.
@ManStryd@MoneySavingExp Thank you, as I suspected yet another postcode lottery.
The last thing I need is my Local Authority getting involved.
Think I’ll try my supplier’s missing payments route first.
@MartinSLewis As far as I know (and I think I learned from yourself) the Alternative Fuel Payment portal doesn’t open till tomorrow, 28 Feb. I use oil in a mains gas postcode and OVO can’t/won’t do anything till end of month.
@MoneySavingExp Just earlier this week you were advising all families earning under £50,000 to check for benefit entitlement now it’s £40,000.
Could it be that EVERYONE who is an owner/occupier has little chance at £40k far less £50k using the calculator.
@iancowie@jagomead@HenryPryor It’s the easiest way to join the benefits bandwagon.
Rents rises much less than food, energy and mortgages.
And there’s an allowance for rental costs.
