Alabama looked mediocre against FSU at the beginning of the season, looked like a top 5 team in the middle of the season, but ended the season with 2 losses and a weak win against Auburn.

The committee probably has both an Alabama and SEC bias but I also think they were concerned that excluding Bama might lead to the elimination of conference championship games.

The “ND should join a conference” bromide is patent nonsense. Our SOS was 13 in Sagarin, well ahead of OSU and IU, and ahead of Miami as well. Championship game? Ole Miss. A&M, OU, and Miami were all quiet this weekend too. And recently played FCS foes. ESPN makes brains soft.
