Biocrust is so beautifully portrayed in this film project I was fortunate enough to be a part of 😍 I am so grateful for the opportunity to tell a whole new audience (outdoor recreation enthusiasts!) about how amazing #biocrust is! #scicomm https://t.co/G4db46QpFC
I can hardly believe the day has come, but I'll be defending my dissertation this Friday (May 3rd) at 11 AM MDT. I'm excited to share all the work I've been doing on gene flow in island birds (and beyond)! Send me a message if you want a zoom link.
Okay I know my last post was a thic piñon but this is the CO champiñon.
Likely a cache planted by a jay a few hundred years ago, looks like four trunks grew together, then swallowed their nurse tree while (a Utah juniper, see first pic). Estimated 12-13 foot circumference.
Two of my biggest inspirations visited the @SEVLTER & likely passed my field sites! Since 1999 we have monitored the changes in reproduction for piñon, juniper, and oaks. I play a small part but nevertheless elated that @SecDebHaaland & @Rep_Stansbury visited this special place.
At Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, I met with @UNM researchers who partner with @USFWS to study our water & ecosystem in the face of climate change. It’s a model of collaborative conservation that we’re embracing in @POTUS' “America the Beautiful” initiative.

Thanks for stopping by our & @EDIgotdata's booth at #ESA2023!
We had such a great time connecting with everyone, including this group of grad students!
ESA is still going, and you can catch the rest of the LTER talks and posters here:

Such a great week at #ESA2023, starting to wind down, but just wrapped a fun session with plant reproductive drivers synthesis group @LaMontagneLab @MirandaRedman and Elizabeth Crone.
So excited to share the first paper to come out from the agrivoltaics work I’ve been doing for the past year! We found that solar panel arrays installed in managed grasslands only minimally impact ecosystem fluxes and productivity. (1/5)

Hey #biocrust friends 👋 our science outreach nonprofit in Moab is putting together an accessible, glossy, informative book about biocrust that will be stocked in visitor centers/book stores across the region & we are in need of high-resolution photos/diagrams! (sneak peak below)
