Remember that story from a few months ago about the disabled guy who did a 9 month internship as a bin man then applied for the actual (paid) position when he was finished and got rejected twice? Yeah he was a canary in a coal mine. We are about to see that on a national scale
there’s a part near the 3 hour mark where he/his editor accidentally left in 2 takes of the same paragraph. at one point he just starts sobbing. i’m not even kidding he just bursts into tears mid-sentence, it goes on for like four minutes and then he just keeps reading the script
This policy exists to serve two key purposes:
1 - to normalise working longer than a 40 hour work week, to encourage the divisive idea of ‘strivers v scroungers’ within the working class.
2 - as a tax loophole for the wealthy and aspirational middle class.
Brits lap up endless stories about 'benefit scroungers' and 'workshy that have never worked a day in their life'
But they also get apopleptic on behalf of employers when endlessly asking about 'gaps on resumes' clearly doesnt help long term unemployed find jobs.
