@Glasgow_Live Could I have the contact details for whoever wrote this please? Details are incorrect (the ‘woman upstairs’ was me, the granddaughter, & there is no upstairs in the house) & don’t appreciate the location being shared, it’s a small area & puts my gran & I in danger.
@dinglyadele@chrislowndes@feelingsplain Not sure which women’s bathrooms you’ve been in, but 98% of those I’ve been in (in Scotland) have had free sanitary products available… I’ve even spotted them in toilets in establishments in England (pubs, unis)
@AmyCallaghanSNP Absolutely! Sorry, this was more a comment toward the article than yourself 😅 I’m an active advocate across all the areas personal to me (mostly marine) but keen to do a bit more politically I think…
@AilsaMcL We were asked in our MPA class whether we should just ‘fast track’ to 30x30 & catch up on management later, or push back 30 target to focus on implementing management. Some classmates argued the former, I gave Scotland as an example on why that’s maybe not the best approach…
Except they don’t protect 37% of Scottish seas. Later in this very report it’s detailed that few of these sites actually have management measures in place. It is plain and simple: management of activity is what provides protection.
This shameful bluewashing.
Our latest Scottish Marine Protected Area (MPA) network report is now available

Published every six years, the 2024 report demonstrates the progress that we have made since 2018 to establish and manage our network of protected sites.

@CF_Conf Hi there! Should the form be emailed once completed? The link within the document keeps downloading a Word doc form, but it isn’t clear how to submit once completed
So incredibly proud to be a trustee for @Youth4Seas - we were Highly Commended with our FIRST EVER nomination for a @NatureofScot Award, recognising the impact this wee org has had already in only our 1st proper year running 🩵
There’s more to come from us, stay tuned 👀
💚 A round of applause, congratulations and thanks to the wonderful finalists and winners at this year's @NatureofScot Awards. As Scotland takes up the challenge to stop the biodiversity loss, they're the nature heroes we all need in our lives. https://t.co/D6RYI8Z6T1

Wait, I know these guys! @ArranCoast being discussed in my MPA lecture today.
Also asked to highlight a community member who’s been key in conservation efforts & gave a shoutout to Bally from @CreelScff ☺️
Looking forward to being part of this panel discussing my background & experience in navigating the world of marine conservation & its barriers to access. Please share with young folks in your networks! 🩵

wondering why I’m so exhausted today, but yesterday I gave an assessed presentation, after a 12+ hr drive from Scotland the day before, getting shingles from stress (+ a cold), & attending a loved one’s funeral (all since Monday)
that might be why 🫠
Assigned a presentation topic for one of my modules of ‘can MPAs benefit both marine vertebrate conservation & local communities?’
This is something I’m REALLY interested in & been a keen advocate on for a while, but curious to know others’ thoughts (either way)
The fact that even in the current offshore MPA consultation, management isn’t being proposed for those areas within MPAs that are actually subject to intense fishing is beyond me. Again, taking the absolute ‘p’ out of protection.
& still no sign of an inshore consultation…
. @ScotGovMarine 's offshore #MPA consultation closes in 3 days & most Scots want to see our #MPAs protected from high-impact fishing 🌊

One of my assignments for one of my modules is to design my own MPA and I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited (or ever excited) about an assignment before 🥹
Great first 2 days out on the sea for @MarineVertsMSc @ExeterMarine 🌊
Lots of gannets, grey seals, common dolphins & porpoise (yesterday) & bottlenose dolphins today. Other groups spotted a minke & tuna, they managed to evade us. Hopefully spot them soon too 🤞🏻
