Your Ledger in a drawer. Your paper wallet in a safe. Your air-gapped computer.
None of them protect you from a quantum attack.
Because the quantum attack never touches your device. It reconstructs your private key from your public key on the blockchain. Your hardware is irrelevant to that attack.
The only thing that changes the outcome is what signs your transactions.
Here is what @quipnetwork built for exactly this.
The Quip client generates a post-quantum seed alongside your existing seed phrase. No migration. No replacement. It complements what you already have and can be used immediately or left unused while you continue with classical transactions.
Most people read that and move on. The 256 limit is the part worth stopping at.
The post-quantum seed is safe from quantum attackers as long as the wallet nonce stays below 256. At that point the wallet reminds you to generate a new seed phrase extension and deposit to a new QUIP firewall contract.
That 256 limit is not arbitrary. WOTS+ is a one-time signature scheme. Each signing operation consumes one key from the available set. Reusing a key compromises security. 256 is where rotation becomes necessary to maintain the security guarantee.
The wallet tracks this automatically. You get reminded before the boundary. Rotation is built into the protocol.
Over 6.2 million BTC currently sit in addresses with exposed public keys. Every classical wallet sits silent about it. @quipnetwork built the one that tells you when your window is closing.
A while ago, I almost invested in a project just because everyone on my timeline was talking about it.
The chart looked great.
People were calling it the next big thing.
I was just one click away from buying it.
Then I stopped and asked myself one question.
"If nobody was talking about this project today... would I still invest in it?"
I couldn't answer "yes."
That's when I realized something.
I wasn't doing research.
I was following the crowd.
Since then, my checklist has been simple.
โข Does it solve a real problem? โข Are people actually using it? โข Is the team still building? โข How does the token get its value? โข And the biggest one...
Would I still hold it if the price dropped 50% tomorrow?
If the answer is no, I probably don't understand the project well enough.
Hype can convince you to buy.
Conviction is what helps you hold.
That's the difference.
What's the first thing you check before investing?
