I never considered that by making new norms and centering wellness , I’m disrupting the system. Sometimes we think that system change only happens after big moves. But this is a reminder that even changes that seem small can be enough to disrupt a system.
One of the biggest ways to disrupt a system if you are a senior member of that system is to craft new norms of how to move in that system.
I have chosen to bring peace and a laid back vibe to every environment I control in academia.
What does that look like?

When Black scholars get asked to do unnecessary stuff, we should respond with: "that work may shorten my telomere lengths and affect my cortisol levels, which puts me at greater risk for heart disease. So the answer is no! "
