I'm going to hop on Twitter every once in awhile (if it's still around) to remind people that it's a bad thing. It's bad for your emotional and mental health. Maybe do something else. Walk. Read books. Talk to your family. Literally anything else is better.
@RealGreyMage Now that 5e is Creative Commons, creating for 5e is not really creating for D&D as a brand anymore. It's like coding for Linux but not for *Ubuntu*. WotC is leaving it all behind to build a digital monopoly anyway.
@lincodega The giant corporation is breaking a 22 year legal promise to a community of fans and customers for a monopoly grab but hey - let's hear them out? Let's bargain? No fucking way. I have my books and dice and 1000's of other options -they will not have my money. Goodnight WotC.
@DnDBeyond "Hateful & harmful content is hard to define" so...don't. Why bring that onto the company? Use that added payroll expense to produce cool merch instead. Leave OGL 1.0(a) in place, let the community police itself as it has for 22 years. TTRPG players reject hateful garbage.
@bruko Best possible outcome is they apologize and re-set. Still...never spending another thin dime on any WotC product, no matter what they do from here. There is enough material out there already (plus homebrew) to last everyone several lifetimes worth of gaming.
@bruko They could have made more and better brand merchandise. More t-shirts. More toys (it is HASBRO for fuck's sake). More collectibles. More kitsch. D&D fans would have eaten it up and they would not have to touch the existing license structure.
@bruko No, OGL 1.1 was terrible. OGL 1.0a doesn't need to be touched, it does everything they need it to. They are just going for a power grab. It's their brand, they can burn it down however they want, but none of this was necessary.
@DarthJerod@JeremyForbing@rsdancey@Pretty_Clever_@Hasbro@Wizards_DnD I understand publicly traded companies by law are beholden to shareholders. It's possible to make oodles of money and still keep the customers (somewhat) happy - WotC has a golden goose brand with D&D but Hasbro is chasing the wrong dollars, the wrong way.
@Wizards_DnD You're not talking with the customers, you're talking *at* the customers, and it's all smoke. Zero trust here. Publicly confirm that OGL 1.0(a) stays as-is or STFU and let the brand die an honorable death. #DnDBegone#OpenDnD
@Pretty_Clever_@rsdancey@Hasbro@Wizards_DnD OGL 1.0a is moot. WotC doesn't care if they lose the entire current TTRPG community. Their new target audience will play a dumbed-down, fully digitized experience that can be monopolized for subscriptions. D&D as we knew it is dead.
@Pretty_Clever_@rsdancey@Hasbro@Wizards_DnD If you have the money, you can pay a lawyer to file suit. Right or wrong means nothing. Legal Eagle may be technically correct, but that doesn't mean a company (WotC or otherwise) wouldn't sue anyway. OGL 1.0a removed, or at least mitigated, this risk.
@highonfyre@iammrgriff@DnDBeyond@Wizards@Wizards_DnD@Hasbro That article was the initial scoop but I think it's all much *worse* than anyone assumes. I'll still play 5e D&D but Hasbro and anything attached to them will never get another dime from me.
