For the first time in U.S. history, builders are undercutting existing home owners on price.
New houses sold at a median of $394k in August 2026.
Re-sale houses sold for $429k.
That made new houses $35,000 cheaper, which is a near record discount.
You can see historically, it's the inverse. Builders are normally charging $35,000 more for houses, but now they're cutting.
The reason this split is happening is because builders are adapting to market conditions and trying sell homes.
While existing owners are often sitting on their hands, de-listing their houses to sit on 3-4% rates.

Starting October 1st, lying to get an apartment in Florida is now a felony. | #ONLYinDADE
Florida has a new law for people who lie to get a rental. Fake pay stubs. Fake bank statements. Fake IDs. Pretending to be someone else. Any of it can get you a felony. That means up to 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Landlords don’t have to wait for a court case, either. They can give the renter 7 days to move out. There’s no chance to fix it.
A big apartment group pushed for this law. They say Florida had more rental fraud than any other state. Every lawmaker voted yes. It passed 110-0 in the House and 34-0 in the Senate. Governor DeSantis signed it in June.
Zohran Mamdani: “DoorDash had underpaid more than 260K delivery workers across New York City. Today, after years of corporate greed and impunity, we are holding DoorDash to account. I am proud to announce that DoorDash will pay more than $131M, the largest settlement for food delivery workers ever secured in American municipal history and a landmark win for those who have been mistreated and abused for years with nowhere to turn”
