Single-family zoning laws are new. Cities used to develop naturally, many of which acquired the "old towns" that people love to visit. But exclusionary zoning limited housing supply, raised prices, and blocked ppl from moving to desirable neighborhoods.

@PeterSpadafore Agreed and how do we get these numbers (costs projected/incurred) for Lansing? Adam Hussain spoke on a podcast in general terms about how we didn't have enough money to maintain our roads but didn't give sources. He didn't respond to my request, is that published somewhere?
@Cedar500 a parallel problem is that when some people hear "build more housing" they hear "build more detached houses with garages and set backs" which was the approach taken decades ago that is part of the reason we are here
@MIOHSP wearing high viz doesn't protect people from bad infrastructure. instead of blaming the victim, we should have separation bw peds and cars, and traffic calming where that's not possible. your pic has someone walking on a road that needs a sidewalk

@MichiganDOT sure would be great if MDOT chose to study and publish transit and transportation options instead of choosing to expand freeways and expand roads and defer their maintenance over the past decade.
Unsafe housing in Lansing: there are over 700 red tags active (for 655 buildings) in the city according to documents received by the city council. #lansing#housing

@antoniolocandro kinda klugey but have you ever used map layers/layer properties in your queries? i have created a layer called "global_var" (super orig, i know), and i have given it the metadata title of 500. EVERY layer that calls layer_property will return that number #gischat
@WWFerguson2 I'm curious where the bounds of Midtown are? I'm fairly familiar with the East side neighborhoods but I live on the South side, I'm not familiar with Midtown (other than the brewing co), and it's not on the City of Lansing Map (which to be fair is from 2006 so)
Did you catch Joan Nelson's piece in the @CityPulse about "granny flats"? Of land designated for housing, 90% goes to detached single families, but fewer than half house actual "single families". Where do zoning laws allow multifamily bldgs? #lovelansing#housing
