Looking over their recent news releases, I was surprised that these kind of enforcement action are taken quite often. An earlier one was for a branch manager misappropriating less than 30k!
Do you have any idea about why these actionsare taken? Assume that any criminal plea would accomplish the same and read alot like finra actions but for the general public.
@itachikarin @JohnRussellTur3@AuthorGFAllen I am also really curious how anyone can prefer atlas shrugged over fountainhead!
Night of Jan 16, just ordered this on amazon. When the reviews said less sprawling than her later stuff…. I was 100% in as that was my biggest issue, so many extra words!
Marc Andreessen: There are two ways to think about education. One is at the national level — how do you educate all kids? But the real question is N = 1: what do you do for one individual kid? And for centuries, the answer has been obvious.
If your goal is to maximize a single child, the best method by far is one-on-one tutoring. Every royal family knew this. Every aristocratic class knew this. It’s why Alexander the Great was tutored by Aristotle — and then took over the world.
There’s actually statistical proof of this. The Bloom’s 2-sigma effect shows one-on-one tutoring can move a kid from the 50th percentile to the 99th percentile. No other educational method comes close.
AI changes that. For the first time in history, every kid can have access to infinite questions, instant feedback, personalized explanations, and real-time quizzes — all at N = 1 scale.
This is the most powerful shift in education we’ve seen in centuries. One-on-one tutoring was always the gold standard. AI is what finally makes it available to everyone.
@ZaringDavid@tphillips Because it’s not a good one. Its executive power (reg and enforcement) merged with congressional power (coin and regulate value of money) merged with being a service provider. It is a constitutional turducken.
A turkey we are too chicken to face, so we duck it.
@brianrknight@ZaringDavid@tphillips I remember after the financial crisis the New York fed was somehow trying to tell Goldman about Chinese walls and conflicts…..
@JohnRussellTur3@AuthorGFAllen The same thing happened to me, especially if you read *The Fountainhead* next! Such an awesome book, and a bit more subtle!
The rest of Rand's works were really tough and at least for me almost a turn-off, detracting in my mind. I still reread *The Fountainhead* once in a while!
It makes you wonder why the XML/XBRL transition has been such a mess and is still ongoing after more than a decade.
I remember starting in finance and using Stanford’s SECinfo, which parsed text filings back in 2000.
Almost three decades later, we still have no reliable, agreed-upon format for unstructured contracts and other agreements.
How old are you? I've heard a lot of people tell me things like that, but I thought nude swimming was more of a 1940s thing.
I'm almost 50 myself, and what surprises me most is that no one wore goggles or swim caps even 25 years ago!
If that happened to me I would have a lifetime fear of going to a pool!
Do you think it’s reasonable to divide end users into two groups: one consisting of market makers, arbitrageurs, and gamma scalpers, and another driven mainly by tax and insurance considerations?
I believe much derivative activity—single-stock futures, other OTC derivatives, hedges for variable annuities, and similar products—exists primarily because of regulatory and tax reasons.
@BEVERLYSKILLS2@AuthorGFAllen@FCSNVA2nd The Bachman Books by Stephen King! I picked up from my parents bookshelf probably in middle school. I was terrified for years!
When I was younger, I bought into bullshit like Ayn Rand, Malcolm Gladwell, and Nassim Taleb, and I didn’t understand the works you referred to, but perhaps Kafka was the one I most misunderstood when young.
Thirty-five years later, Kafka’s The Trial and his short stories have really sunk in. As for Chesterton and the 2000s motto of “move fast and break things,” raised by first-generation Asian parents, I was always told not to mess with people’s fences.
These never showed up on OFAC at least for US broker dealers clearing through Pershing at least around 2013-2016!
BONY was custodian but most of these mid 2015 suspicious South American bonds were executed through Clearstream including the prior defaulted Ecuador and PDVSa bonds.
A few years ago, I saw promotional materials for a private investment fund that aimed to buy single-family homes in top-rated school districts and rent them exclusively to families with children seeking access to better schools. The fund targeted New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts.
@rustyrockerfell@ArmandDoma As a Republican from the Northeast, we have just as much apprehension about Republicans…
I guess I am just embarrassed I purchased and enjoyed Giuliani’s book 20 years ago!
BREAKING: President Trump announces steps to ban large institutional investors from buying single-family homes.
