In Congress I was privileged to co-chair the Brazil Caucus. The United States and Brazil are the leading economies in the Americas, and Brazil has always been one of Florida’s foremost trade partners. Additionally, I’ve always had a profound love and appreciation for the Brazilian people and their beautiful culture.

While I understand that the relationship between the countries has been difficult since the beginning of the second Trump Administration, I have no doubt that both nations would benefit from sincere and open dialogue. This can only happen with full diplomatic rosters on both sides.

The government of Brazil should receive @Daniel_PerezFL as the U.S. Ambassador. Speaker Perez has been my representative in state government for eight years. He is a man of decency and integrity with a great sense of fairness. His presence in Brasilia can only help make things better. Of course the U.S. should reverse the decision to cancel Ambassador Viotti’s visa. She is a top-notch diplomat who has conducted herself with great respect and professionalism despite challenging circumstances.

If Speaker Perez is empowered to listen to Brazil’s legitimate concerns, I am confident he will act decisively to improve relations while ensuring the sovereignty of both nations is respected.

A wholesale repeal, or the termination of certain individual credits, would create uncertainty, jeopardizing long-term project planning and job creation in the energy sector.
