👋 Personal news: I was one of the people to take the POLITICO buyout — my last day was Friday. It’s bittersweet to end my seven years here this way, but I’m grateful for all the great stories I got to report, the impact my work had and the great reporters and editors I got to work alongside.
I’m not sure what’s next, but if anyone has leads for a policy or politics reporter, I come with a pretty versatile set of skills from the seven years I spent covering Congress, state governments, policy and campaigns for POLITICO & POLITICO Magazine. I’m also open to freelancing in the meantime!
Thank you to every journalists in the @thejournoguild’s WhatsApp group who has turned an idea into something bigger than I could’ve ever imagined, and the website isn’t even launched yet. The dialogue, advice, real talk, and resources we are providing each other in there is something I never expected when I started it.
We’re almost at 300 people in the chat group.
The group’s popularity has led to many connections for exclusive freelance opportunities and pitching resources. Magazines, outlets, and newspapers eagerly looking to hearing for new journalists in today’s media.
Any journalists that hasn’t checked out the The Journalists Guild WhatsApp group yet, hit me up or feel free to reach out to other journalists already in the group about getting in.
This is what’s really going to hurt the social media world of ripping off legitimate news sources and passing them off as your own.
Lots of people use the AP’s reporting and photos without actually subscribing to the wire service. The AP starts to go, it all starts to go.
