I did this because I firmly believe Malaysia as a multiracial society, where everyone should enjoy equal rights. When racism storm engulfing campus and society, my intention was merely to exercise my freedom of speech under Federal Constitution, to express my opposition.

I am Malaysian by birth and upbringing, which compelled me to take action. During my convocation, I raised a placard to protest against racism and demanded an apology or resignation from UM's Vice-Chancellor due to his misconduct.

Abdul Rahim, as the Vice-Chancellor of the country's most prestigious university, not only failed in his role as an educator but outrageously claimed that political dominance should be held exclusively by Malays, while political rights belonged solely to them.

Wong Yan Ke has been found guilty under Section 504 (Penal Code).

He has been charged with a fine of RM5000 (by default 3 months in jail).

As activists, we find this sentencing unjust as it further stifles the freedom of expression amongst students.
