this might be my last normal tweet before biotech goes vertical
i'm not a whistleblower. I don't work at Lilly, Novo or any of the big labs
but there is a massive shift happening in human biology right now.
it's sitting in press releases and almost nobody reads them
the last 6 months alone:
- a once-daily pill roughly doubled median survival in metastatic pancreatic cancer (13.2 vs 6.6 months)
- a one-time gene editing infusion cut hereditary angioedema attacks 87%, and 62% of patients stayed attack-free and off all other prevention for 6 months
- a one-time gene edit for cholesterol dropped LDL up to 62%, and it held for over a year
- a personalized mrna vaccine beat keytruda alone in a 1,137 patient melanoma phase 3
- retatrutide hit ~28% weight loss in a phase 3
- an ai-designed drug entered phase 3
- a pill that regrows hair passed its second phase 3
- an immunotherapy that could let some rectal cancer patients skip surgery, chemo and radiation just got fda approved
- a man lived 271 days off dialysis on a pig kidney
- human cells were caught passing chromosome-sized chunks of DNA to their neighbors, and it changes how the neighbors behave
we are on the verge of an era where the human body is a software problem and the update cycle gets shorter everyday
stick around, it's going to get weird

we’re in a phase where BCI is taboo, and all the AGI labs have to pretend to be in the ‘keep the future human!’ camp
MANY ppl at anthropic understand that unaugmented humans will have ZERO causal purchase in the near-term, and they’ll get the matrix plug as soon as it’s viable
at some point I will be obvious that augmentation will not completely mandatory for anyone who wants to survive the future
‘Solving alignment’ is the dishonest thing the AGI labs say today
soon, they’ll be frank: there is no eternal control. There is no ‘survive by telling all future intelligences to do your bidding forever.’
The only way to persist, ever, is the become WHATEVER you need to become in order to contribute within the larger living system jn which youre embedded
But none of the lab leaders can be honest about this because ‘tranahumanism’ is seen as ‘anti
human and bad’ (when in fact transformation is the ONLY alternative to attenuation)
This is an incredible moment in this history of mathematics, computer science, physics & science with some of the hardest problems in human history being solved by AI over a period of weeks. Depending on your perspective, it's either a crisis, a triumph, or both. I don't think anyone knows for sure. We're all trying to make sense of it. I oscillate between fear/dread and optimism/excitement on a daily basis. The rate of progress is insane, including today's announcement from OpenAI of more problems solved.
To help make sense of all of it, here's my conversation with three mathematicians about this moment. Each of them is an expert in the field of each of the biggest problems solved: Navier-Stokes, quasi-Riemann hypothesis, the unique games conjecture and complexity theory more generally.
Ankur Moitra is a mathematician and theoretical computer scientist at MIT, visiting the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Steven Brunton (@eigensteve) is a mathematician and fluid dynamics expert at UW. Alex Kontorovich (@AlexKontorovich) is a mathematician at Rutgers specializing in number theory.
This is a virtual human body with 700 muscle actuators, 206 joints, and 90 body segments.
It's fully open source, and researchers can use it to simulate human movement through muscle-level control.
.@So8res thinks it’s more likely than not AI will wipe out humanity by 2036. How does that belief affect his choices in life? He doesn’t save for retirement, but beyond that, he says, “I sort of do what I can and then I live a good life.”
We talked through all the ways we should try to lower those odds. Watch here: https://t.co/OBAGL3nfkN
Dario Amodei: AI could surpass human intelligence by 2027.
“I think it’s possible it could be longer than that. I don’t think it will be a whole bunch longer.”
“AI systems will be better than almost all humans at almost everything.”
“When that happens, we’ll need to have a conversation about how we organize our economy.”
“How do humans find meaning?”
“The idea that humans produce economic labor and get their sense of self-worth from it will be invalidated.”
“My true belief is that this is coming.”
If we want to continue progress in science, we must be prepared to acknowledge that the correct description of nature will eventually simply be too complicated for humans to understand. I do not think it is wise to make human understanding a requirement. AI is the way forward.
Anthropics co-founder Jack Clark: "I believe that this year, we've gained convincing evidence that it [The Singularity] has now begun".
Even if you don’t believe that we have entered the singularity, Anthropic assumes that we have.
you first! 50% salary reduction for MPs, cap expenses at bare minimum levels, scrap food & booze subsidies in the HoC and abolish the second home allowance, you can get trains to work and pay for them yourselves, like the rest of the public. we’re all in this together, aren’t we?
1/ We discovered something totally unexpected about the neural structure of consciousness that overturns decades of thinking on its biological basis and brings us significantly closer to the recipe for generating conscious awareness.
