@oladesy@TheNikkiRosa This should have more likes. People live for the drama to make a complete stranger look bad when it ain’t nobodys business and she even clarified it yet thats not something people wanna hear or is being spread!!
Breaking down themes I noticed in Tyler Perry’s #Straw (a thread):
4. Mental Health
We see Taraji be this long-suffering character and unwilling to ask for help in literally every scenario throughout the film — only to get to the end of the movie and understand the final twist.
Taraji refuses to take more money than she is owed during the robbery at the grocery store, she refuses to rob the bank, her child is hungry / dirty but it isn’t clear if she is leaning on the school for support services, she refuses to take the small loan from her friend and co-worker despite really needing it — at every turn, she just isn’t comfortable accepting help.
Just to find out in the end that Taraji’s character actually really truly needed serious all along. So many messages tucked into the story about mental health, caring for yourself, being a village for others, asking for help, speaking up for yourself when you need to, learning what advocating for self looks like — even just down to understanding what psychosis / a mental breakdown even is.
Bravo @tylerperry
One interesting theme in Tyler Perry’s #Straw — the more extreme the poverty for Taraji’s character becomes, the more irrational she gets. Even in some of the situations she could’ve just explained or advocated for herself in, she’s too frantic and exhausted to make any sense 🤧
But to hear the Trump crowd wildly cheering for Kennedy tells me this is a new dawn in American politics.
If you vote for Trump you get a little piece of John F Kennedy’s politics.
If Trump was too far right for you, he just got a little left. 10/
