The machair (coastal grassland that hugs the beach) is a haven for wildlife. In the summer it's covered in assorted wildflowers and it's simply an amazing place to see and walk through!

I never met her, and never finished reading Full Tilt, but the fact that "that Irish lady rode her bike alone across continents" was an enormous inspiration to me when I first started cycle touring. So I find myself having a bit of a cry at the death of Dervla Murphy.
