Tesla's new Roadster hung almost upside down 65 feet off the ground, let go, and caught itself before it landed. The only thing it used to stop the fall was air.
Without the thrusters, that's a bad two seconds. From 65 feet, about six stories, a car hits the pavement doing roughly 44 mph. Nobody was inside. Elon said the car drove itself for the demo "to make sure we don't kill anyone."
Watch the readout in the bottom left as it drops. It jumps to 3.1 G at 31 feet as the thrusters fire, which is about how hard you get pressed into your seat at the bottom of a big roller coaster drop. While that's happening, attitude thrusters roll the car right side up and thrusters at the corners fire straight down to set it on its wheels.
The tanks hold about 250 kg of ordinary air, crammed into two carbon-wrapped pressure vessels totaling 600 liters, the same kind of tank SpaceX flies on its rockets. That works out to air roughly 340 times denser than what you're breathing, stored at several hundred atmospheres. Tesla says it leaves the nozzles faster than the speed of sound and the system puts out more than 80 kN, enough force to hold up over 8,000 kg.
The white cloud it lands in comes from the air too. Gas expanding that violently gets cold enough to turn the moisture in the night air into fog on the spot. Nothing on the car is burning.
And the tanks refill themselves. Elon says the Roadster can pump them back up on its own, which means the propellant for that six-story catch was the same air you're breathing right now.

That’s a really good question to ask. Historically people that have accidentally uploaded secrets to the repositories have regretted it even when those repositories were private. Also, it’s bad practice to share production secrets with the entire team usually just keep those on the server. If you wanted to have a local secrets for setup on a machine use .env.example and then rename to .env on local setup. Only keep local env names in it.
@jasonfried@ericzawo I agree my CV hasn’t been updated in a long time. If you worked with me, you’d know within the with day. I’m a fan of probationary working agreements for the first couple weeks or month because I think it benefits both parties.
@dhh I feel like I’m one of the few devs that have a system that doesn’t result in slop. I literally do not have the issues that everyone else seems to complain about.
@ThePrimeagen I prefer human in the loop. I built tooling for human-agent collaboration rather than full agentic automation. My output is way better than most, and I have my thumb on my codebase and feature set.
🚨BREAKING: Jensen Huang just EXPOSED Dario and Altman’s "Rogue AI" grift to avoid getting sued into oblivion under EXISTING law
“Don't let this doomsday narrative cause somebody to relieve them of the laws that currently exist.
Go and read between the lines. They're actually not asking for more laws; they're asking to be relieved of the laws we do have.”
ABSOLUTE TRUTH NUKE
@Anaya_sharma876 If I have to prove you wrong, then you're not a developer. Doing anything on Windows is painful. Yeah, I know they have the Windows Subsystem, but it works like dogshit.
We have not achieved AGI yet.... 3D models and video games are impressive but do not provide evidence of any AGI. We are still reproducing work that's already been done, not creating brand new things.
