I have already talked about the importance of awareness and prevention of HIV as an entity with the previous question. With the existing problem of HIV, I believe challenges include:

1) Fear of testing
2) Battling stigma
3) Access to ART

The advantage of a medical student is that we're in the position of knowing MUCH and TOO LITTLE. Our unique experience allows us to be able to educate and not make the uninformed feel small. With humility, we get to share our advocacies and grow with experience #cnuvsmmcmicrobio

3) Availability of resources is always a problem. For some, it won't be the disease that kills them but the "kailangan pa dumaan sa butas ng karayom" just to be able to provide for themselves.

And what's worse? HIV infection is a "death" sentence. Imagine someone who has lived with that LIE for his life - contracts the disease and refuses to get help and be informed. The person can display self-destructive behavior that may worsen his situation #cnuvsmmcmicrobio

There are still a lot of people here who think that HIV is only acquired thru sexual contact. They need to know that there are ways in which HIV may be transmitted & one is through sharing of infected needles. This is Cebu’s foremost mode of transmission.
