@elonmusk @Grummz The true inheritors of Arnesson and Gygax (who are dead but not forgotten!) are ACKS from @_Autarch_ and C&C from @trolllordgames . Everything else owes itself to the Creators, but they're not the same. Certainly not the bland corpo slop being skinsuited as D&D today.

@John_Cyrano @Gingerblast As an example, ACKS has some great guidance on making the act of traversing the dungeon / cave an interesting encounter in its own right. The ACKS system is d20+mods vs Target Number, which is also the 5e system. So the TN of 8 to climb up a rope is also the Dex(Acro) check DC.

@Gingerblast @John_Cyrano I can confirm that ACKS 2 is 100% compatible with 5e. You can use the numbers in ACKS as DC values, and just port everything in under the hood.
