The scope is staggering:
🔴 Every query you type
🔴 Every voice and photo search
🔴 Every autocomplete you accept
🔴 Your language, your device
🔴 Your country pinned to a ~3km² grid
🔴 Every result you saw, every link you hovered
🔴 Every click and scroll
🔴 The full chronological order of your search sessions

Meaning the European Union now knows your:
🔴 Health symptoms
🔴 Pregnancy
🔴 Sexual orientation
🔴 Political views
🔴 Religious beliefs
🔴 Financial distress
🔴 Legal trouble
🔴 Addictions
🔴 Affairs

Under the proposed measures for DMA Article 6(11), Google would be ordered to ship the daily search behaviour of hundreds of millions of Europeans to multiple third parties through a daily API feed. Any approved "online search engine," AI chatbots included, would get five years of access.

The things people only ever type when they think no one is watching. All of it now scheduled to flow daily into an open-ended list of third parties scattered across the European Union.

Brussels promises "anonymisation." The reality is a thin technical veneer that has been broken in academic literature again and again for over a decade. Search behaviour is a fingerprint. Stripping a name does not change that.

Mass data leaks become inevitable. Every new beneficiary is a new attack surface, and every annual audit is a year of silent exposure between checks. The 2025 Discord vendor breach already showed how fast 70,000 government IDs can leak through a single weak link. Now imagine that link holding Europe's search history.

Surveillance without consent becomes the default. Hundreds of millions of EU citizens never agreed to have their queries packaged and shipped to companies they have never heard of. The legal fiction of "anonymisation" cannot manufacture consent that was never given.

Behavioural search data is a goldmine for phishing, blackmail, social engineering, and corporate espionage.

Foreign intelligence services get a back door without effort. They do not need to breach Google. They only need to compromise the weakest name on the beneficiary list. One insolvent startup. One compromised contractor. One approved entity quietly acquired by a hostile state.

In the name of "competition," the EU is about to manufacture a permanent, distributed, daily-refreshed copy of Europe's collective search history. A surveillance dataset Brussels itself would never approve if any other government tried to build it.

The public consultation closes Friday, May 1, 2026 at 23:59 CEST. The final binding decision lands July 27, 2026.

After that, the door does not close again.

Michael Jackson had to cut a deal with a drug lord to film this video. The Brazilian government tried to block the shoot. A judge banned the filming. The police refused to enter the area.

Rio was bidding to host the 2004 Olympics and didn't want the world seeing footage of its poorest neighborhoods. So Spike Lee walked into the favela (Rio's version of a hillside slum) and found the local crime boss. His name was Marcinho VP. He ran one of the city's biggest gangs, Comando Vermelho. He also happened to be a huge Jackson fan, and he provided the whole production with security for free.

A higher court eventually overturned the ban. The police still wouldn't go in. So 1,500 police officers and 50 residents acting as security guards sealed off the favela. Jackson arrived by helicopter. He walked the streets handing out candy to the kids. The people who lived there had woken up early that morning to sweep the streets and take out the trash before he got there.

Mid-shoot, two women burst through security. One knocked Jackson flat. Spike Lee helped him up and he kept dancing. That exact take is in the final video.

For the Salvador half of the shoot, he worked with 200 drummers from a local group called Olodum. The media coverage put them on the map in 140 countries. They'd been a regional act before the shoot. They became a global one after.

Over 200 million people watched the premiere around the world. The song itself peaked at #30 in America. In Germany it went to #1 and stayed on the chart for 30 weeks, the longest run of any Jackson song there. The video crossed 1 billion views on YouTube in 2023. Only one other Jackson video has done that: Billie Jean. He's the first solo male singer from the 1900s with two videos over a billion.

The day after Jackson died in 2009, Rio's mayor announced they'd put a statue of him in the same favela where the video was shot. Locals said the turnaround of their neighborhood started with his visit.

Today we honor Rachel Corrie, who was murdered by israeli occupation forces in Gaza 23 years ago on March 16, 2003 while attempting to block a bulldozer from demolishing a Palestinian family’s home in Rafah. She was 23 years old.

In lesser known photographs of Rachel, taken just a month before she was killed, she is seen ripping and burning a hand-drawn American flag during a protest against the U.S. invasion of Iraq in Rafah on February 15, 2003.

23 years later, as the U.S. and zionist entity continue to carry out the ongoing genocide in Palestine from Gaza to the West Bank and rain down bombs on Iran and Lebanon, we know that if Rachel Corrie were still with us today, she would be struggling in defense of Palestine and resisting imperialism, zionism, and injustice in all its forms, with every ounce of her being.

It is in this spirit that we join Palestinians and people of conscience around the world in honoring Corrie’s legacy as we continue to fight for Palestinian liberation and return within our lifetime. And it is in this spirit that we uplift her words, which continue to echo through space and time, a guiding light to all those who remember her name and her story.

“If any of us had our lives and welfare completely strangled, lived with children in a shrinking place where we knew, because of previous experience, that soldiers and tanks and bulldozers could come for us at any moment and destroy all the greenhouses that we had been cultivating for however long, and did this while some of us were beaten and held captive with 149 other people for several hours – do you think we might try to use somewhat violent means to protect whatever fragments remained? I think about this especially when I see orchards and greenhouses and fruit trees destroyed – just years of care and cultivation. I think about you and how long it takes to make things grow and what a labour of love it is. I really think, in a similar situation, most people would defend themselves as best they could. I think Uncle Craig would. I think probably Grandma would. I think I would.”
