I find it sometimes difficult to teach in an Art dept. in a research university. The disciplinary epistemology is, unsurprisingly, relentlessly Idealist, anti-intellectual, and theological, wrapped in the American presumption that self-actualization is the point of everything.
This is the most chilling explanation of what Brexit will do to the UK economy after December.

Speaking broadly and with notable exceptions: we have a political media culture, primed over years of toxic nonsense on migrants, Muslims, climate, Brexit and more, that cannot usefully critique the government’s covid response
The tragic thing for Britain, particularly England & Wales, is that it doesn’t matter how much Johnson screws up or Chris Whitty castigates government policy, or Rishi Sunak vetoes common sense ideas, without an expressed alternative these people will remain in power for years.
Sunak is obvs a tool but artists have already been retraining for over a decade. Only the very well off can vividly render the image of the careless bohemian sauntering around insurmountably expensive capital cities established in the 20th century.
A mordant fatalism: ‘That’s life,’ ‘you’ve just got to get on with it’ - these fatalistic clichés are the life-crushing formulae that are interiorized as a protective emollient shield against the draining sense of disappointment & failure that Capital relentlessly imposes.
Fascism is a massive compensation, an aggregation of disappointed egocrats, not an expression of vibrant collectivity. And a consequence of the Dostoyevsky/Nietzsche/Deleuze/G analysis is to vigorously & absolutely separate joyful confidence in what you are doing, from fascism.
