I just recently had a very similar situation. I casually mentioned spaceX and immediately was confronted with expressions of disgust by the person I was speaking to.
I said, ok, you don’t need to like Elon, but can we agree that the company does great things? - no agreement there drifting into rants of „far right Musk supporting parties like nazi-AfD, accompanied by mocked Nazi salutes and H*tler mustache.
When asked what is so bad in the program of AfD, because I actually read it, it just immediately escalated further, insulting me, showing me the finger and storming off without a single attempt to actually explain what is the basis of all these judgements.
It is astonishing how little ability to explain themselves and to debate these people have and how much aggression unleashes when being questioned about it.
And once more it was evident, just Mention Elon Musk or one of his companies and you will get an immediate insight into the psyche of the person you are speaking to.
