The Digital Rights and Inclusion Forum 2026 is officially underway, and the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU) is on the ground this week ready to engage, collaborate, and push forward critical conversations on digital rights across Africa.

From internet shutdowns to freedom of expression in the digital age, this forum comes at a pivotal moment for the continent. And we’re not just attending; we’re bringing something powerful to the table. 👇

🔥 We, the Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU), will be hosting a workshop to discuss the legality and limits of internet shutdowns, procedural safeguards and oversight mechanisms, obligations to ensure continuity of digital communications, and rights-based approaches to cybersecurity and public order in Africa.

Silencing 1 media platform limits everyone’s right to information. Suspension of @Jambotv_ raises serious concerns about freedom of expression. We call for an immediate review of this decision and urge authorities to uphold constitutional rights and protect media freedom in TZ.

Every proffesion requires broader scope for demostrating and proving competence, as well as testing differenct experience and challenges. I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the UN Consultative Group for the confidence they placed in my work in the field of human rights defenders, and for recommending me along with other two expets to the final stage of consideration by the President of the Human Rights Council.

I also extend my respect and appreciation to all 65 candidates who participated in this highly competitive and transparent process, as well as to my fellow finalists from Colombia and the United States.

The diversity of experiences represented throughout this process reflects our shared commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights at national, regional and the global levels.

THRDC congratulates Adv. Olengurumwa for being ranked among the top3 recommended candidates and 2nd overall for the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of HRDs. A milestone reflecting global recognition of Tanzanian civil society leadership and sustained human rights advocacy.

THRDC in collaboration with @humanrightstz convened CSO thematic groups to advance the drafting and consolidation of Tanzania’s Joint CSOs Report for the 4th Cycle UPR. The meeting strengthened evidence, and collective readiness ahead of the early April 2026 submission deadline.

We were happy to welcome our new members, Ilala Paralegal and Temeke Paralegal, to THRDC. We had open and engaging discussions on the challenges paralegal and legal aid organizations face and explored how to turn these challenges into opportunities.
