Cold War Midnight Ready Alert launch out of Moffett Fld. 3 hours to onstation, 16 sono buoys deployed. I had the first watch of the grams and everyone in the tube was asleep. I was getting drowsy so I wandered up to the cockpit. Flight Engineer was asleep hanging in the straps, copilot was asleep, and pilot was asleep. I was the only one in the crew of 11 awake. I contemplated hitting an engine fire warning but #4 was already feathered so I took pass on that. I shook the pilot and let him know. He absolutely freaked out. He was immediately on the PA, get some breakfast started (yeah we cooked on the P-3 back then) and get the lights on. Thats one you never forget.

@BuzzPatterson I enlisted in ‘70/17YO my parents moved the weekend I left for boot. When we got uniforms they told us to send our civilian clothes home. I informed them this was my home, didn’t know where my parents lived. They wouldn’t let me keep them, I threw them away. Never looked back.

@BuzzPatterson Wow Buzz, that looks like Placerville airport. Drops off at the end of the runway and you’re immediately flying through the mountains. That was my first flight. Landed at Nut Tree.

@505Cali2 When my son and I have these discussions it always comes back to revealing alien life forms and our true history. The entire moral code was a hoax for control and once the truth is known control will be lost all the lies will be revealed. Thats why they resist being honest.
