This South Sudanese 🇸🇸 basketball player was just drafted 10th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft. His story is remarkable! But we're also going to see more stories like his coming from Africa in the future.

@khaman_maluach is a South Sudanese refugee who was raised in Uganda. At 13, he was stopped by a basketball coach on a boda boda, who asked if he had ever played the game before.

From there, he made his way to a camp by fellow South Sudanese player, the Chicago Bulls legend, @LuolDeng9. At that camp, it was the first time he touched a basketball.

He's now played for just 6 years. After three years at the NBA Academy in Senegal and three years playing for @NBA_Africa's @theBAL, he impressed scouts at Basketball Without Borders, and played one season at @DukeMBB.

But this isn't just feel-good stories about potential. This is African excellence rewriting the game.

Joel Embiid - former MVP - only started playing basketball at 15. Pascal Siakam just played in the NBA Finals but didn't touch organized basketball until he was nearly 18 years old.

As more investment is made in developing Africa's talent economy and creating opportunities for young athletes, the question isn't just 𝘸𝘩𝘰'𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘒𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘢𝘤𝘩.
