Preventing lifestyle diseases is the single most effective way to lower South Africa's high healthcare burden.
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease account for a massive share of hospital admissions and costs.
Shift the focus from treating illness to sustaining lifelong vitality, and the entire public and private healthcare infrastructure gains immense breathing room. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
📉 Impact on System Pressure
Fewer hospitalizations: Managing blood sugar and blood pressure prevents acute stroke and heart attack admissions.
Shorter queues: Preventing chronic conditions frees up primary healthcare clinics for infectious diseases and maternal care.
Lower medication costs: Cutting the lifelong demand for daily pharmaceuticals saves billions in state procurement.
Reduced surgical backlogs: Fewer cases of advanced vascular disease mean less demand for amputations and bypass surgeries. [1]
🏃♂️ Drivers of Functional Longevity
Metabolic health: Stabilizing insulin levels through whole-food diets reverses early-stage type 2 diabetes.
Daily movement: Regular resistance and aerobic exercise preserves muscle mass and cardiovascular strength.
Sleep quality: Consistent, deep sleep regulates cortisol and reduces systemic inflammation.
Stress management: Reducing chronic stress lowers resting heart rates and protects mental health. [1]
🇿🇦 Socio-Economic Benefits
Workforce productivity: Healthy older citizens contribute longer to the economy and require less disability support.
Decreased dependency ratios: Functional longevity keeps elders independent, reducing the caregiving burden on younger generations.
Optimised resource allocation: Saved healthcare funds can be redirected into medical technology, infrastructure, and staff training. [1, 2]
We can explore specific national strategies to implement these lifestyle shifts. Let me know if you want to look into community-level nutrition initiatives, tax incentives for physical fitness, or public school health education programs

@Jonathan_Witt Point taken. It holds for low risk fields. I hold multiple degrees, can teach myself tiling, car service etc. However I will struggle to design a car AND develop tile adhesives, AND my day job all safely. Professionalisation helps most situations
My approach to health comes from the perspective of having an absolute belief that the human body is brilliantly designed to heal. Anything that goes outside of the philosophy does not qualify as truly beneficial. This includes all medications, colonoscopies, peptides, injections of any kind, screening, scanning, organ harvesting or other body part removal, and anything that intervenes in the body’s natural healing process. You don’t need anything outside of yourself to heal, your body is always working towards true balance and restoration.
The #Barefoot Trail in Flagstaff, AZ, is open for walking. If you are in Arizona, or planning to be there, make time to feel some dirt (and so many other textures) with the soles of your feet. Foot fun for everyone! https://t.co/yJRejkLYkO
Middle Ages: God centered. Man needs reform through grace. Result: Hope.
Modernity: Man centered. Man is capable of achieving anything. God is irrelevant. Result: Pride
Postmodernity: No center. Man is broken with no reference to what can heal. Result: despair.
@LionsRugbyCo@Vodacom The lions were never in the game and were unable to cope with the Leinster rush defence. Their line-out was under constant pressure and were Springboks were missed.
The biggest drawback is the lack of depth and tonight they were outclassed by a team full of international players.
@YardleyShooting@BBC This observation extends to every state funded broadcaster but is not limited to them. Netflix is nearly unwatchable. Audiobook platform Audible offers site wide left wing indoctrination especially on its value adds for members.
38 481 criminals are running around Cape Town because of the 40 294 arrests made by LEAP officers, only 4.5% (1 813) have been convicted (Last 6 years)
Is this the DA's revolving door of crime?
(I trust everyone can see how silly the DA is being?) @GroenewaldPJ@VFPlus
@geordinhl Mr. Hill Lewis, you are coming across as very threatened by the FF+. In stead of trying to smear them to keep your votes, why don’t you try convinve your electorate to stay. A good point of departure will be to apologise for the court case lost and the tax abuse they endured!
@geordinhl@Our_DA This is how you bury the DA… one dismal gaff after another. There is zero merit in slagging off coalition partners. Pay attention to the ratio….
Growing up is realising that you don't have to pick between size and strength.
You don't have to vary your rep ranges either.
4-6 reps near failure produces both. Same set. Same weight. Same protocol.
- Maximum mechanical tension (drives hypertrophy)
- Heavy loads recruiting high threshold motor units (drives strength)
- Neural adaptation that translates directly to bigger lifts
- Cross-sectional growth that supports the new strength
- Manageable fatigue that lets you progress week to week
Strength and size are not competing adaptations needing separate protocols. They're the same adaptation seen from two angles. The muscle that's stronger is bigger. The muscle that's bigger is stronger. Shared mechanism.
The lifter doing 4-6 reps for two years has added 50kg to their bench and 8kg of muscle to their frame.
The lifter alternating between "strength blocks" of 3-5 reps and "hypertrophy blocks" of 8-12 reps has done neither as well, and now needs a deload because they've been riding a wave they didn't need to ride.
Pick one rep range. Make it 4-6. Add weight. Wait.
La paradoja del Socialismo.
— El Socialismo necesita que existan los pobres.
— Prometen ayudarlos.
— Pero si realmente los ayudan, dejarían de ser pobres.
— Y sin pobres, no se necesita Socialismo.
