🌍🦟 Recent @WHO 'World Malaria Report' marks a significant step forward in understanding the nuanced relationship between #climatechange & #malaria

Globally, there were 249 million reported cases of malaria in 2022, presenting concerns to the existing #healthcare systems, but there are noteworthy achievements, such as India's efforts at reducing malaria #deaths by 77% from 2000 to 2022.

🌦️ The report states that the climate-malaria connection is complex and dependent on various factors like #temperature, #rainfall, and control measures. Evidence suggests #climate change can directly expand malaria's reach or intensify transmission, as seen in instances like the devastating Pakistani outbreak after heavy #monsoon rains.

Additionally, the indirect effects of climate change on malaria #prevention and control are far-reaching - population displacements due to unlivable conditions can increase exposure, disrupted #healthcare systems including vaccination supply and other essential products, will limit access to preventive and #primaryhealth services, and of course, the loss of monetary resources jeopardizes the ability to take care of one’s health and wellbeing.

At #COP28, the @gatesfoundation announced $57.95 million towards #climateandhealth, allocating $50 million over four years to enhance climate-focused malaria initiatives, addressing changing vector habitats and developing strategies for climate-related challenges in malaria response.

We delved into the current practices followed by WFs, #nurses, #Health educators, and #mentalhealth counsellors- visit frequency, meetings, and target-setting.

Additionally, we were keen to learn about the i4we mechanism for #riskcommunication to get a deeper insight into their #community engagement strategy.

Together, we're committed to promoting #Healthcare and fostering #CommunityEngagement for overall #Wellness.🌿💪
