VIDEO | "On Taiwan, the Americans already seem, especially under Donald Trump, to be listening to China more than the previous presidency did. On weapons sales, the US President is yet to sign the $14 billion arms deals that Taiwan was expecting from the US. I think he is yet to take it further. There have also been strong statements from Xi Jinping. We see this as much more assertive language. The Chinese have always been very sensitive about Taiwan and have consistently said the Americans should stay away. But the body language, the assertiveness, and the current geopolitical context, in which China seems to have a relative upper hand, make these words carry more weight now than earlier. We are definitely witnessing that, and I think the Americans, for that matter, are already signaling to the Chinese that they are listening," says Dr. Tilak Jha, Associate Professor, Times School of Media, Bennett University.
