I will never understand someone calling themselves a Democratic Socialist while campaigning alongside corporate Democrats who support policies that benefit powerful corporations, oppose significantly taxing the wealthy, and continue protecting the political status quo.

Isn’t the entire point of democratic socialism to challenge that kind of politics?

We keep watching the same cycle play out. Establishment and corporate Democrats win, working-class frustration continues to grow, meaningful economic change gets watered down or abandoned, and eventually that frustration creates another opening for right-wing populism and authoritarian politics like Trump and MAGA.

So when Democratic Socialists help strengthen the very wing of the Democratic Party they claim needs to be challenged, I have to ask: what exactly are we building toward?

You cannot keep telling people that corporate dominance, extreme wealth inequality, and establishment politics are part of the problem while simultaneously helping the politicians committed to maintaining those systems stay in power.

At some point, we have to recognize the pattern. If we continuously return to the same moderate politics that helped create the conditions for MAGA in the first place, why should we expect a different outcome?

You can point to the West for cynically exploiting the ethnic tension and division that has plagued Ukrainians since WW II ended 80 years ago – and for stroking the long-simmering conflict into the bloody, ongoing war that cannot be settled by negotiation - but only on the battlefield.

While Putin supported Minsk I and II and proposed mutual security accords in December 2021, Team Biden, the UK and Brussels elected to continue playing NATO’s long-standing "Game of Risk." Now, four years later, the Ukrainian General Staff’s databases reveal 1.4 million Ukrainian soldiers are KIA, MIA, or were injured and permanently disabled.

Demanding Crimea and the Donbass, NATO Article 5 protection, and a full-scale war against Russia, Zelensky, delusional and desperate, is pushing for a catastrophic war that will change life on earth as we know it. This is criminal, monumental stupidity, and yet supported without exception in the collective West.

Russia, today, has no universal ideology to impose on others. Ukraine could have been a "velvet divorce" - like the Czech Slovak split - West Ukraine and East Ukraine. Referendums, no fighting. But the Western "powers that be" wanted a war, the graft - and to break up the growing EU-Russian economic integration.

The war was provoked by NATO encroachment into Russian borderlands - allowing NATO-armed Ukraine and Nazi brigands to target and kill thousands of Donbass civilians. Citing the UN principle, “Duty to Protect,” the Kremlin belatedly intervened in the conflict on 24 February 2022 - with 90,000 soldiers – not a “full scale” invasion.

Cautious, diplomatic, and smart, fluent in German, Putin has an economics degree and a law and security background. A moderate leader, in April 2022, week six of the war, Putin tried hard to negotiate a peace agreement in Istanbul with Ukrainian negotiators that would have left a federated Ukraine intact.

At Biden’s behest, Boris Johnson flew unannounced to Kiev and told Zelensky to “keep fighting - we have your back.” At this point, the war in Ukraine reached the point of no return, and it’s increasingly clear there will be no ceasefire and no meaningful negotiations. Expanding and becoming more dangerous, this war can only be settled on the battlefield.
