A big subject in political ads right now is "grandparents who aren't allowed to see their grandkids". Another one is "make scratch off tickets garunteed to win if you pay for them with your social security check"
@WilesNiles@Forever_Wario Hey that's weird. You remove price and wage controls at the same time, and prices go up like 35% in three years and wages stay flat. Where'd all the extra money from the more expensive goods and services go? What a mystery!
@FanSince09@PanasonicDX4500 I was thinking like, when these parents continue to fail to provide the missing missing reasons, isn't this now what we will naturally assume?
@Robbiemeep@BarbellFi If you saved 5% of your earnings in an IRA and put it into the S&P 500 in the early 80s, you would have saved and invested $5,000 across two and a half years.
That $5k would be worth $1,000,000 today.
Tell us how that's our fault.
@the_roose1@EllieMgs2@3s0t3r1c Yes, and DE is a game where having too high a score has negative consequences as well. He was an incredible, fucked up man.
@801formal_llama@VitruviusGrind They sold the mortgage 30 years ago when the unit was new. They're not going to inspect every year, at most they'll run a LexisNexis query every decade to see if the their lendee is alive and not in prison and still has insurance.
@ZoneZeroNYC@constans@PanasonicDX4500 "Being a landlord is so hard bro, we have to replace ovens and other things"
You ran out of effort after a dozen words shut your lazy ass up lmaoo
@801formal_llama@VitruviusGrind The issue is that the landlords were making a profit by deferring maintenance. Now they're trying to sell, but buyers don't want to buy properties that need 30 years of updates all at once. It's their own damn fault for trying to pass the buck on to the next landlord.
@801formal_llama@VitruviusGrind If your profit comes entirely from deferred costs, you didn't have a profit in the first place.
Here's a quick trick to making more money out of the ice cream stand: don't pay for electricity! Then when your freezer stops working, blame the government.
@constans@ZoneZeroNYC@PanasonicDX4500 The benefit is that you don't have to do it in between occupations. I would argue you will make more money keeping an apartment in good condition with renters in it, versus deferring all maintenance over a 30-year tenancy and then having to spend months fixing everything at once!
@801formal_llama@VitruviusGrind > I owned a building for 30 years
> Now it's so worthless it won't sell even at fire sale prices
Sounds like a shitty property owner! Embarrassing
