“#Sleep in a quiet room for better rest:
Whether it’s police sirens, trains clattering by, or late-night revellers making a racket, night-time #noise is more than just an annoyance — it could be harming your heart.” ❤️🩹 ☠️ @Brown_SPH@nuestrasalud@RIHealth https://t.co/slzD6ZytJ7
Neighborhood Revolution Against Noise Neighbors rise up and refuse to resign themselves. Torrejón de Ardoz cancels the macrofestivals of 2026 Brava Madrid, Madrid Salvatge and Torrejón Summer Fest disappear from the festive programming, leaving only elrow Town Madrid on May 1
My attendance record in the European Parliament was the 4th worst out of 751 MEPs, yet I managed to turn up to vote AGAINST plans to tackle Russian misinformation.
Thankfully this is of no interest to the media.
🚨Sir Ian McKellen is quoting Thomas More, writing in 1517 during anti-immigrant riots in London 🔥 when terrified foreigners were dragged from their homes and blamed for every social ill.
More asked the mob a simple question:
“What would you do, if you were the stranger?”
500 years later, those same words cut straight through the noise.
Because today we are again stirring hatred, again blaming the vulnerable, again pretending cruelty is “strength”.
If the great humanists of the 16th century could see the danger…
why can’t our politicians in 2025?
History is speaking louder than ever.
The only question is: are we listening?
A small tourist tax is an excellent idea. It could raise much needed cash but the money should come direct to the local councils so we can use it for extra security, street cleaning, public realm improvements etc. https://t.co/CJUKl7xnKh
We can reveal only 2 people work on noise at DEFRA, the Government department with overall responsibility for noise policy. And neither of them is full-time. More people work in a small branch of Café Nero. This shows contempt for the millions disturbed by noise each year.
In Summer 2025, “Switzerland expanded its own ‘quiet time’ rules, which run from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., to specifically target #noise from loud vehicle exhausts. Drivers have been warned they could face ~$12,000 fines if driving in popular tourist hotspots during those hours.”
And “Germany is not the only European country to have introduced quiet hours. In France, the law states that people should make no #noise between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., and nothing above ‘ambient noise’ for a prolonged period outside these times.” We’re the outliers, not them.
In an effort to regulate #noisepollution, Germany has introduced “Ruhezeit” — ‘quiet time’ — on Sundays, an agreed-upon period in which neighborhoods across the country are expected to adhere to guidelines that “allow residents to enjoy peace and quiet.” https://t.co/RSBV3SehPL

We need fair, independent press regulation to protect ordinary people from abuse and restore trust in the press.

‘The threat couldn’t be more urgent and imminent. Yet here we are, still putting our head in the sand.’
@carolecadwalla says it’s ‘peculiar’ that the case of Farage ally Nathan Gill admitting to making pro-Russia speeches for cash isn’t being followed more closely.
[Translation]: “A noisy society is a sick society. The WHO sets the maximum level of environmental [ambient] #noise even lower: At 53 dB(A) during the day, and 45 dB(A) at night to avoid disturbances — and the consequent impact on #publichealth — and to ensure quality #sleep.” 🙉
