1/ The days of work-life balance at startups are over. Here is how to get people working hard again:
This post might be controversial. It shouldn’t be. Startups are hard. The most successful tech companies were built by people working long hours as a competitive advantage.
@Andercot Mids don’t understand Sam’s ways. The idea is to light couple of hundred millions of dollars on fire and monitor its smoke patterns which will then reveal path to AGI.
@sergeykarayev This guy had been sleeping at the wheel. Basically destroyed all of the lead Microsoft had and he even has unlimited access to OpenAI models: @ashtom
@realGeorgeHotz I really don’t think this is true. A lot of inference load is shifting on AMD. Llama 3.1 works on AMD. I heard they made GPT-4 run on AMD. If massive $$$ + Lisa is involved, AMD managers will make devs work all night for days on to make things happen.
@iquilezles People contributed this content for free. You never paid them anything. You don’t really own this. It’s not yours. Stop greedily profiting from volunteering work.
@Carnage4Life No, he essentially said hiring of c-suits is inherently noisy and c-suits are exceptionally good at lies so you must go few levels down to keep touch with reality instead of 100% trusting c-suits and rely on blind delegations. Every low performing team at big tech has this issue.
@PicoPaco17@yacineMTB Yeah makes sense. Melinda left her career to be Bill Gates wife. She lived in best mentions, had private nanny staff and never had to cook. For all of that hard work she deserved to be paid $1M per day of her marriage.
