Transparency International Zimbabwe is convening a multi-stakeholder meeting in Gweru under Zimbabwe Accountability and Citizen Engagement (ZIMACE), which is for advocacy of real compliance with the electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system in maternal health procurement.

The e-GP system was launched to cut corruption, limit human interference, and improve value for money in public procurement. On paper, progress exists. PRAZ data shows 98% of procuring entities now have approved Annual Procurement Plans.

In practice, compliance remains weak, especially in public health institutions. District hospitals continue to struggle with poor ICT infrastructure, weak internet connectivity, delayed approvals, and resistance to change. These gaps keep corruption risks alive and directly affect access to quality maternal health services.

This meeting brings together PRAZ compliance teams, procurement officers from provincial hospitals, district health offices, local authorities, auditors, health administrators, and service users. The focus is straightforward: identify what is blocking full e-GP adoption, confront compliance failures, and agree on corrective actions.

The outcome is expected to be a clear action plan with assigned responsibilities and practical recommendations to strengthen oversight, improve procurement practices, and protect public resources in the health sector.

Procurement reform only works when systems are used properly. Compliance is not optional. It is central to transparency, accountability, and saving lives.
