@dawn_jernigan@DOWResponse Similarly the concept of the Rapture wasn't widely accepted until the 1800s yet is a core belief of most American Christians.
@dawn_jernigan@DOWResponse it may come as a surprise but most flavors of christianity have substantial belief differences that are not based anywhere in the bible. Most Christian beliefs in hell are based on the 14th century fork "Inferno' by Dante whose depiction was partially canonized by the Catholics.
@_panycirco@DOWResponse I feel bad for all those people that will go to hell simply because they were so evil as to be born thousands of years before Christianity existed.
@AlexHollings52 A second crew member could be really great though that tall Su-30 cockpit isn't doing the RCS any favors, though the lack of decent. RAM and massive vents on the sides of the engine already destroy the RCS
@eagleswhat1@AlexHollings52 No it really isn't. It doesn't even have comparable radar absorbent material (RAM), hence they are always painted in blues and whites. The US and China exclusively have RAM that of limited color palette because that absorbs radar best, not a wide range of pigments in the paint.
@ThresherKing@AlexHollings52 We never got to a point where more than about 15-20% of the army was in actual frontline roles so if 14% of draftees were in combat roles that would just reflect closely to the overall trend for the US armed forces at the time.
@ThresherKing@AlexHollings52 So, the draftees in front line roles reflected the average for the whole military? The majority of military roles are non-combat roles. Not wanting to discredit anyones service because all the roles were indeed vital but the US was never on the ropes like the Axis or USSR.
@vasilyaarkhipov DSI is overall more desirable, which is why nearly all new planes have it. The plate on the F-22 is due to computing limitations in the late 80s and early 90s. Unfortunately the parallel surfaces do increase radar return from certain angles while increasing weight.
@Truthful_ast Yah, there are some underwhelming states that insist they are peak [cough,Texas, cough] but some crazy beautiful states that really give you the full experience. Pretty much any drive west of Denver is going to be insanely beautiful.
@flashman198@MuKuDk2 And so were the people that came before and after. The tail is as old as time, the new generation is always considered weak solely because they come later.
@fde_enthusiast7 Yep, and they fail to realize that people act according to the situations they find themselves in. In WWII the overwhelming majority of fighters were conscripts, it's not like they wanted to be there.
@SpaceKoala yep. A DC-X stacked onto a slightly wider DC-X would have solved it. Actually a little surprised we haven't seen that exact concept emerge (though Stoke is probably the closest since they reenter tail first). I think the mistaken belief that the next step was SSTO really hurt us
@deltaIV9250 I think A3 will devolve into Orion attaching onto a boilerplate or only partially functioning prototype that is sitting in LEO. We are not going to get much movement out of BO for a while and SpaceX is realistically not going to be able to build and test the HLS in that timeframe
@1concordia@henskelion Wild carnivore populations have been in freefall. Omnivores thrive around humans because have so much food waste. Also, if say your rat population is skyrocketing while the population of native rodents is plummeting that also causes major issues.
@Rust_ranger57@NosuSuishinV2 A great example of this is the fusion drives in The Expanse get blasted for being too efficient even though it shows engines designs hundreds of years in the future but we demand crazy efficiency? A sci-fi writer in 1910 might argue an engine like the GE9X is unrealistic for 2016
@Rust_ranger57@NosuSuishinV2 I feel like a lot of sci-fi realism is hard in general because with sci-fi the whole point is to not have the tech restraints of modern day yet we want everything to be explainable with modern day tech, which presents a fundamental problem.
@mightbejell0 Yah, the people who think looking visually simple is the same thing as being simple probably think aa new car has s simpler engine than an old car just because they have plastic panels that hide most things in the engine bay now.
