Arrived in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, yesterday (a day after my return to India from Los Angeles!) for my first appearance at the #ChettinadLitFest, a special gem of the nation’s cultural and literary heritage. Joined speakers and attendees at dinner and met the legendary Mrs Meiyappan, the guiding spirit behind this remarkable event.

Honourable Governor Shri Rajendra Arlekar Bab,
Please go through this letter issued by the Governor of Karnataka in 2018, where the single largest party was invited to form the government and asked to prove its majority on the floor of the House, as mandated by the Constitution. The Governor did not arrogate to himself the power to decide numbers inside Raj Bhavan.
The Legislative Assembly alone is the constitutional forum to test majority. Democracy cannot be replaced by personal discretion or ideological bias.
You may come from an RSS background, but as Governor you are duty-bound to rise above political ideology and uphold the Constitution of India. Any attempt to undermine the Gen Z mandate and democratic conventions will be strongly opposed by the people of Tamil Nadu.
@narendramodi ji and @AmitShah ji, please do not change constitutional conventions and democratic principles each time as per political convenience. This very letter was issued by another RSS-backed Governor in Karnataka to the BJP itself.
Honourable Rajendra Bab, once again, being a Goan, do not spoil the name of Goans. Goans are known across India as law-abiding citizens who respect democracy and always uphold the Constitution of India.
The Governor of Tamil Nadu refused to invite TVK leader Thalapathy Vijay for swearing in till he receives a list showing the support of 118 MLAs.
With such a condition, the Governor is negating the the constitutional provision of a minority government.
Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao led a minority government for a full five years. Was that not a legal and a constitutional government? There have been several minority governments in states too.
Actually, every MP or MLA has three voting options: yes, no, or abstain.
The right to abstain means that they can choose not to vote. The Governor cannot deny them this right.
It is the right to abstain, which the basis for the rule regarding the confidence motion. The confidence motion only needs the support of a majority of members present and voting in the House. It does not require the support of a majority of the total strength of the House.
For example, assume that the total strength of the House is 200. Only 180 members cast a “yes” or “no” vote and 20 abstain from voting. Then the government would need only 91 votes to win the confidence motion, not 101.
That is why the Governor’s decision of not inviting @actorvijay is wrong.
TVK is the single largest party. No other party is staking its claim to form the government. Therefore, Thalapathy Vijay should be invited and be given an opportunity to prove the majority on the floor of the House.
It is possible that some parties or MLAs may choose to abstain and not vote. In that case, support from 118 members would not be necessary, and Thalapathy Vijay could run a minority government.
The Governor cannot take away this constitutional right.
There are several instances of Governors extending an invitation to form governments even without a complete list of supporting MLAs.
As proof, one can look at the letter issued on 16 May 2018 by the Governor of Karnataka, in which B. S. Yediyurappa of the BJP was invited to form the government despite not having the required numbers at that time.
@INCIndia@kharge@RahulGandhi
@Jothipr42534028@AshishSinghKiJi We accept that Congress leadership is toothless and not able to take a decision of its own with regard to decide on an alliance and is being arm twisted. No complaints against DMK. Forever we @INCIndia shall remain bonded to DMK and their party welfare in Tamil Nadu 🙏🏽
@Jothipr42534028@AshishSinghKiJi Brother, it is for this attitude the DMK continues to marginalise 20 year long standing alliance parties like Congress thrashing them to ground. DMK wants a grand alliance to fight the election but insult the alliance parties to insignificance. Is this right ?
This is one of the rare temples where you can find Ramar in Sayana kolam (Reclining pose)
This temple is believed to be the origin of the divine prasadam that led to the birth of Rama, Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna
Lord Ramar lay on a bed of darbha grass and fasted for 3 days, praying to the Ocean God to grant a path.
This is one of the sacred 108 Divya Desams
This temple is closely associated with Ramayana

Throwback to 2012 when Rahul Gandhi brought #RatanTata to Kashmir to bring business 🚨
“Rahul Gandhi has opened not a window but a door for us...” ❤️
Golden words by Ratan Tata, what a man & an absolute legend 🇮🇳
Sitaram Yechury ji was a friend.
A protector of the Idea of India with a deep understanding of our country.
I will miss the long discussions we used to have. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and followers in this hour of grief.
When the owner of a small business, like Annapoorna restaurant in Coimbatore, asks our public servants for a simplified GST regime, his request is met with arrogance and outright disrespect.
Yet, when a billionaire friend seeks to bend the rules, change the laws, or acquire national assets, Modi Ji rolls out the red carpet.
Our small business owners have already endured the blows of demonetisation, an inaccessible banking system, tax extortion and a disastrous GST. The last thing they deserve is further humiliation.
But when the fragile egos of those in power are hurt, it seems humiliation is exactly what they’ll deliver.
MSMEs have been asking for relief for years. If this arrogant government would listen to the people they would understand that a simplified GST with a single tax rate would solve the problems of lakhs of businesses.
