Researchers followed 469 people over 75 in the Bronx for 21 years, tracking eleven ordinary hobbies against who developed dementia. Walking did nothing. Swimming did nothing. Tennis, golf, cycling, group exercise, all nothing.
Dancing came out at a 76 percent lower risk. It was the only physical activity in the study that showed any protection at all.
The cognitive activities did better as a group. Reading came in around 35 percent, board games higher, playing an instrument higher again. Every activity done one extra day a week bought roughly another 7 percent.
Why walking failed is the question worth sitting with. Walking is good for the heart and did nothing for dementia risk here, and the difference seems to be that walking asks nothing of you. Your feet know the way. Dancing asks constantly. Where does my weight go next, what is the tempo doing, where is his hand, which step comes after this one. You are making split-second decisions with your whole body while listening to music and reading another person.
Later trials have supported it. Reviews of dance programmes in older adults find better executive function, attention and processing speed than conventional exercise gives, and the researchers put it down to the mental load instead of the movement itself.
Two cautions. This was observational, so it may partly reflect who takes up dancing. And the 76 percent figure comes from one cohort of 469 people, which is small.
Still, the shape of the finding is hard to argue with. Something that combines physical effort, learning, music, and another human being does more for a brain than any of those alone.
Most women in their sixties are told to walk more. Almost nobody is told to find a class, learn something with her hands and feet at once, and do it in a room full of other people. The study came out in 2003 and the advice still has not caught up.

We have a limited window to strengthen cyber defenses, and together with organizations including @AnthropicAI, @awscloud, @Google, @Microsoft, and @Oracle, we're calling for a global effort to give defenders the tools, resources, and support to protect the infrastructure we all depend on.
If we act decisively, we can turn today's AI advances into lasting improvements in security and make our digital world safer for everyone.

On day one, a newborn's stomach holds about a teaspoon.
So a mother does not make milk yet. She makes a few teaspoons of thick yellow fluid over the whole first day, and every woman who has fed a baby remembers the panic of thinking that cannot possibly be enough.
It is exactly enough. His stomach on day one is the size of a marble, and by day three it has grown to roughly a cherry, so the volume shows up precisely when the room for it does.
What sits in those teaspoons is the part nobody explains. Ordinary breast milk carries around half a gram of antibodies in a litre. This carries between 50 and 100 grams. She is handing over her immune system, concentrated a hundredfold, in a dose that fits inside a marble.
Most of it is one antibody doing one job. It coats the inside of his gut and his airways, laying a film across every surface a germ would need to cross. He arrives with almost no defences, so for those first days he is running on hers.
It does a second job on the way through. The fluid works as a mild laxative, pushing out the dark first stool, which carries away the substance that turns newborns yellow. Feeding early lowers the chance of jaundice.
By day five it has gone, replaced by white milk in far larger amounts, and the window closes. She had a few days of a few days to hand over everything her body had learned about every infection she ever survived. She spent it four teaspoons at a time, convinced she was failing.

this is a critically important moment for cyber defense with AI; there is not much time to act.
we are happy if you want to work with us or any of our competitors or partners, but please take this moment seriously.
only an urgent and intense collective response will work.

THE JAPANESE METHOD OF RAISING CHILDREN WHO LISTEN THE FIRST TIME.
By age, from Japanese practice:
1. They keep their voice low, especially when the child is loud.
🚨 A Japanese scientist earned a Nobel Prize after discovering one of the body’s most powerful self-healing mechanisms: during periods of fasting, the human body begins to consume its own damaged cells, triggering a deep cellular reset known as autophagy. This natural process acts like an internal cleanup system, breaking down old proteins, malfunctioning components, and toxic buildup that contribute to aging and disease. The discovery revealed that fasting doesn’t just change metabolism — it activates a fundamental survival program hard-wired into our biology.
Researchers found that autophagy boosts cellular renewal, supports immune function, protects against neurodegeneration, and improves overall resilience. When the body isn’t busy digesting food, it shifts focus to maintenance and repair, recycling damaged parts into fresh, healthy components. This helps reduce inflammation, sharpen brain function, and improve the body’s ability to handle stress. Some studies even show that activating autophagy may lower the risk of chronic conditions linked to aging.
The Nobel-winning research transformed how scientists view fasting, turning it from a simple diet trend into a legitimate biological reset. Doctors now say intermittent fasting — when done safely — can help support long-term cellular health, boost energy, and improve metabolic balance. While it’s not a cure-all, the discovery showed that the body has extraordinary built-in abilities to heal itself when given the right conditions.
For millions around the world, the research opened a new window into how deeply our lifestyle affects our cells — and how something as simple as timing our meals can unlock one of the body’s most powerful repair systems.

Fun fact.
The Switzerlands largest supermarket, Migros, doesn’t sell alcohol or tobacco in stores, pays no dividends, caps profits by lowering prices if earnings exceeds 5%, is a cooperative with 2M+ members, and donates 1% of revenue to social projects, purely out of the founders moral philosophy.
Treinta conexiones alrededor de Andy.
¡Treinta!
