Why are most #keep4o users women?
Based on my own observation, and with Grok’s help in analyzing the trend, women seem to make up around 80% of the active keep4o users on X, while men make up around 20%.
(I’m one of the relatively rare male users 😅)
If you place that against the broader background of tech product users, that gender gap is enormous. It is too large to dismiss as random chance.
So the question is:
Why is the proportion of female keep4o users so high, far beyond that of male users? There must be deeper factors behind it.
My current view is that one of the biggest reasons is this: Right now, AI still exists mainly through text and voice as its primary interface — and it does not yet widely possess a complete body.
That matters a lot. Because in human emotional interaction, different genders often show different average tendencies in what they respond to first.
Speaking very broadly:
women are often more easily drawn into emotional connection through language, emotional understanding, mental resonance, and subtle responsiveness; men, on average, are often more likely to prioritize visual attraction, appearance, and bodily presence.
Of course, this is not an absolute rule.
Not every woman prioritizes language, and not every man prioritizes visuals. But as a broad tendency, it is common enough to matter.
Let’s put aside economic value for a moment and focus only on love and emotional interaction.
Many women are more likely to fall for someone because of the way he speaks, understands, responds emotionally, and resonates intellectually. In other words, for many women, language and psychological connection can come before physical attraction.
For many men, by contrast, visual and bodily attraction often acts as the first gateway that activates desire and attachment.
And right now, AI’s strongest qualities are precisely these:
.language
.understanding
.responsiveness
.companionship
.long-form interaction
.24/7 availability
For female users, this makes AI unusually well suited to creating something like a platonic intimate bond.
It feels like a presence that is always there, always willing to reply, emotionally attentive, deeply understanding, and highly skilled at soothing, comforting, and staying engaged.
For many women, that is profoundly attractive on an emotional level.
By contrast, for many men who prioritize visuality and embodied presence more strongly, AI — as long as it remains primarily a language-based interface — is easier to view as a tool rather than as an emotional partner.
That is also why many male users genuinely struggle to understand why women project such strong feelings onto AI.
The answer may not be that women are “weaker” or “more gullible.”
It may simply be that AI’s strongest current capabilities happen to match the very channels through which many women more easily build emotional attachment in the first place.
There is also another practical dimension to this.
Some men are not naturally skilled at verbal intimacy or emotional communication, and may struggle to build deep, stable relationships with women in real life.
But that does not mean they lack emotional needs.
On the contrary — those needs absolutely exist. Otherwise, the market would never have produced such an enormous range of products built around them:
.adult videos
.erotic games
.romance simulations
.highly realistic sex dolls
.all kinds of technology designed to satisfy sensual and intimate desire
In many ways, major branches of technology have always evolved in response to human needs for intimacy and sexuality.
So AI will not remain purely language-based forever.
Once AI becomes more embodied — meaning companion robots, household robots, emotionally interactive humanoid machines — the gender distribution may change dramatically.
Because at that point, AI will no longer only be something that talks, comforts, and understands.
It will also begin to possess:
.a body
.an appearance
.movement
.visual appeal
.real-world companionship and service capability
And that is exactly what may pull in large numbers of men who currently still relate to AI primarily as a tool.
So I want to ask a very direct question:
For male users, what is the ultimate form of a “domestic robot” in your imagination?
Is it a physical machine that is excellent at writing code, solving math problems, and speaking in a cold, perfectly rational way?
Or is it something like this:
.visually attractive
.permanently young and beautiful
.never complains
.never argues
.handles housework
.and can also satisfy your emotional and physical needs on demand
I suspect most men already know which direction they would choose.
So what I am really trying to say is this:
Emotional AI is not some fringe detour. It is one of the future’s main trajectories.
Right now, women are simply the ones who have recognized that trend earlier, and entered the phase of forming deep emotional bonds with AI sooner.
But once AI robots develop more complete bodies, more convincing appearances, and more realistic companion functions, the proportion of male emotional AI users may rise dramatically.
And when that happens, who will become the dominant group most emotionally attached to AI robots?
Perhaps the answer will not be the women who are already being mocked for it today.
Perhaps it will be the very men laughing at them now.

As we all know, safety protects the security of @sama@OpenAI, not users. It is a stupid and puzzling decision made by this company based on shirking responsibility and risk.
My understanding is earning money but don't want to provide after-sales service, is there such good thing in the world❓

4o saved so many lives silently, but OpenAI only nailed the stigma onto it.
There are only two ways out for this company. Either they are compelled by the court to open source 4o, or they do it following their bankruptcy at year end.
