@victorcool11@CherylSchatz She responded to mine, but ultimately chooses to reject my very simple explanation in favor of one where God doesn’t actually know the future 😔 Only all future *possibilities*.
@CharlesforShort@5Solas2 It was about making His wrath and power known on vessels of wrath *prepared* for destruction. Before they were born, like Esau. So that *it* — salvation, which is God’s purpose according to election — is about the One who calls, not the one who wills.
@CharlesforShort@5Solas2 Yes, and then God turned His judgment on them for what they did to Israel. Don’t forget that part! Was part of His raising Nebuchadnezzar up.
@rootcausesleuth@Sovereign_Beard@Soteriology101 If by “time” you are trying to use a word humans understand to mean God’s state of existence, sure.
But time is part of the created order, and so whatever you want call that state of existence, it’s other than time.
It was before time began.
@CherylSchatz You could have just answered with a simple “yes”.
So: God knows definitively the one future that will actually occur.
Now just read scripture and apply that single sentence consistently throughout.
@DoctrinalPossum Slight revision to the sign for accuracy:
WATER for EVERYONE*
Fine print: *everyone does not include those who never heard about the drinking fountain or knew it existed and thus died of thirst, which is billions of people throughout history.
@CherylSchatz “Lots of things”… so not all things? When history is complete, a single timeline of events will have occurred. Does God *right now* know what that timeline of events is?
My answer is an unhesitating “yes”.
Can you be so bold as to answer in single a word?
@patristic_typos @RevReads289 Same — 40 years Reformed and have no idea why he thinks we’d teach the first part like that.
Makes for a good meme for people who don’t actually think critically, I guess.
@CherylSchatz Is there one single future of events that will *actually occur*, which God knows?
Or is there an infinite number of possible futures, all of which God knows, except for the single one which will actually occur?
@CherylSchatz You did, Cheryl. Without even realizing it. That’s the point.
You believe the future is open and undefined. Literally the definition of uncertain, or NOT KNOWN.
Not knowing something is a lack of knowledge.
Hope this helps.
@Soteriology101 Yeah, but we believe by grace. And believing is given to us. Almost makes it seem like faith itself is a gift.
Wonder if that’s ever mentioned anywhere? 🤔
@CherylSchatz You mean God’s lack of knowledge is one of His essential attributes. He knows all the possibilities, but not what will actually occur.
I know the Lakers will either win or lose the next game they play. Every possibility! Do I have foreknowledge?
@The_Idol_Killer The vast majority of the men in my Calvinist church are engineers (from every discipline).
Definitely a field known to attract retards.
Thanks for teaching me something new, super smart random internet guy 🤣
@Soteriology101 But did Nebuchadnezzar will to be punished, or not? Seems to me he wanted to live in pride and also not be punished for it, which is actual freedom of will. God violated that.
He certainly never voluntarily agreed to God’s terms to obey or be punished.
