At long last, the Senate will have a nomination hearing next week for Herro Mustafa Garg, the nominee for the long-vacant US ambassador to Egypt post. Badly needed for months, but especially urgent now.

Today, Ayman Moussa marks 10 years in prison of a 15-year sentence for Unlawful Assembly. As US Congress takes a firmer stand on human rights in Egypt, I call on them to put Ayman's name @ the forefront of the conversation.

We’re approaching a stark anniversary — and US-Saudi ties are crucial to the Biden administration’s foreign policy. I’m honored to moderate a conversation with some of the smartest voices on this relationship about a figure who understood it better than almost anyone. Tune in!
Two more senior Dems — Dick Durbin and Patty Murray, president pro tempore, call on Menendez to resign. “If Senator Menendez refuses to resign, I encourage the Senate Ethics Committee to open an investigation into this, separate from the ongoing criminal case,” Murray said
Sen MURPHY also calls on Sen Menendez to resign, “I think it's pretty clear that the best path for Senator Menendez right now is to step aside.”
He also says they should consider a pause on the waiver of money to Egypt, “pending an inquiry into what Egypt was doing.”
Two weeks ago the Biden admin waived rights conditions on $235m in military aid to Egypt on "national security grounds."
Turns out, Egypt was actively undermining U.S. national security (not to mention our democracy) at that very moment. Congress cannot let the aid go forward.
BREAKING: Senate Foreign Relations Chair Sen. Bob Menendez' responds to federal corruption allegations involving Egyptian government:
"I firmly believe that when all the facts are presented, not only will I be exonerated, but I will still be New Jersey's senior senator."
I would genuinely love to have a conversation w/ these authors about Salah Soltan, a US LPR unjustly detained in Egypt for TEN YEARS now despite no evidence of wrongdoing.
I applaud the Iran efforts. But it's well past time to apply the clear pressure to Egypt to release Salah.
Meet @nadaarafat who first broke the Halal Cows Egypt Human Rights Bribery story that got @SenatorMenendez indicted today. She quietly but doggedly covers food, water, and the environment at @MadaMasr and doesn’t get nearly enough credit for it 🥂
