A huge amount of the Anti-AI code sentiment massively overestimates the quality of human code outside of a very small set of open source and high quality company codebases. Human Slop is everywhere and can trivially be improved on by any opus level model.
Right now, engineers need real time, immediate feedback if the AI slop factor is going too high, or they're not holding themselves accountable for going down an LLM-driven path that created a mess.
Senior engineers and tech leads are bearing the brunt of this burden right now. Many are not used to giving a lot of hard, tough feedback and have historically leaned on their managers to do it by relaying info upwards on occasion.
That's just way too slow right now. The junior engineer who let Claude rip and made a mess needs to know about it right now, and in the most direct way possible. They will thank you later.
AutoMapper changing its licensing is a godsend. It’s so easy now to shut down the introduction of AutoMapper by simply saying “we can’t use it because of licensing”. More .NET frameworks need to change to a paid license please ❤️
"In the meantime, it is on every team to look for ways to convert their domain knowledge to infra so that Claude can write code better, so that code review catches issues automatically, and so the next person working on your codebase can contribute more easily."
A junior dev asked the staff engineer: "How do I know if the AI's code is correct?"
The staff engineer replied: "How do you know if yours is?"
The junior dev was enlightened. Prod went down.
Something about people posting their original thoughts experiences and words screams guts and that is finally back on my X feed. You don’t get this experience on frikkin Instagram…
